I booked an appointment for an electrician to replace a double socket where 1 socket wasn't working; and fit a fused spur switch as I was replacing my gas cooker with electric. The appointment was booked a few weeks in advance. A young man arrived 1 hour before the 5-hour afternoon appointment window and replaced the double socket in 10 minutes. He then spent a long time on his mobile phoning his boss about the other matter as he didn't know what to do. At the end of the hour he went home.
The job report the next day said he'd finished the task of replacing the double socket, and given a quote for installing the spur switch & it requested payment of £156 (1 hour's work + VAT + £20 materials). I said I was unhappy with this and received a reply which said the hour covered a number of things inc travel time & various overheads. And quoted £500 + VAT to come out again to fix the spur switch.
My concerns:
I was given to expect all the work would be done at the one appointment. The young man was sent towards the end of the appointment window and was being trained on the job. And I'd been led to understand when booking that the £110 + VAT hourly weekday charge was for time actually spent on the job.
The further quote of £500 + VAT was simply fantastical.
I got a reputable local electrician to install the spur switch. He was very experienced and the job took him about 40 minutes for a fraction of the handyexperts' £500 + VAT quote.

Refreshing experience.
An honest plumber who gave a realistic assessment of the site rather then the one which would net him the most money, unlike another company I had in recently, who worried me unnecessarily, with talk of a hugely expensive replacement.

Electrician turned up on time after giving a pre warning call to estimate a time of arrival, very efficient and polite, had to go and purchase socket to replace faulty switch, but local company so only gone 10 mins
