Finally paying for Claude and OpenAI from outside the US

Moved from Texas to Sydney for work in January and realized I was about to lose access to privacy.com (US-only, which I didn't realize when I first signed up two years ago). Spent a frustrating couple of weeks looking at alternatives but most either wanted to verify a US address (I no longer have), or wanted me to only use crypto. A friend recommended Halocard and after giving it a try I was pleasantly surprised.

What I actually use it for: my Anthropic API spend (around $200 a month), OpenAI ($150-ish, lower since I moved more workflows to Claude), Apple One family plan, my Adobe sub, Replit, Cursor the list goes on... Each one on its own card with a sensible monthly cap so if anything dodgy happens I'll catch it. That's the whole reason I started using virtual cards in the first place. Someone kindly ran around $400 of Uber Eats charges through my old debit card a couple of years ago and the bank took weeks to refund it. Not going to go through that again.

Support: In February I had a concern when a charge to Anthropic showed as failed but the money was sitting in limbo for two days and I was convinced I'd been scammed. I contacted support late at night, got a real reply within a few hours (Edward, thank you for your help!). Turned out to be a merchant hold, not anything Halocard had done, but he sent me screenshots of the actual transaction status and stayed in the thread until it resolved itself the next day. That saved this from being a different rating, it was nice to know the support was actually someone on the other end and not these ai bot's every company seems to be insistent on using.

As for what could be improved, I'd love to be able to just fund via bank transfers that would be more convenient for me and also if I could use it as an app, using it in the browser is fine but I'm just more used to apps.

But aside from that, so far so good.

Virtual cards workd first time

Have tried so many different virtual card providers. Halocard was the first one that didn't feel like an immediate scam. KYC was simple. Added my first card to Meta 10 minutes after signing up. Had an issue with another card and messaged support. The actual founder wrote back to me with a solution and everything went through perfectly. Cards are US issued virtual credit cards and work surprisingly well. Can recommend for quick, no fuss payments.

Halocard's acceptance is excellent.

We were looking for a Privacy.com alternative that could work cross-border for our teams in Germany, U.S.A., Kenya and Philippines. Edward talked us through every detail around personal and business accounts, pricing, documents required etc without rushing us or pushing us to sign up. We onboarded the next days and are pleased so far. Can confirm Halocard's acceptance is excellent.

a company who actually care about privacy

I grilled the Edward pretty hard about data retention, where my ID details go after verification, what they store on their servers, whether my biometric data is kept. He answered every question honestly and pointed me to their privacy docs without being defensive (their privacy policy is quite reasonable). They don't store PII themselves and the identity check is done by a third party (sumsub). The $100 min. deposit threw me off but when he explained it was to keep out fraudsters and maintain quality, it actually gave me a little more confidence. The fact the founder is manning the live chat at 10pm answering questions tells me they actually care about their customers unlike other providers.

It's not a straight-forward process given the credit card industry is effectively monopolised by 2 giant corporations. Good support

Got locked out from too many SMS attempts, then Apple Pay wouldn't work on my iPhone, then my card didn't activate after adding funds but their support (Sam) helped me through all of it. he cleared the SMS block, suggested I try Apple Pay 24 hrs later (which actually worked), and fixed an issue with their credit card system. Took a while to get my cards which was annoying but 5/5 for support.

Hi Renn. Appreciate you taking the time to give your feedback! Sometimes the account creation process can take longer than we'd like. A few tips for anyone in a similar situation:
- We recommend a real, non-VOIP number for SMS verification (VOIPs sometimes don't accept SMS codes)
- Apple sometimes restricts how many cards you can add to your Apple Wallet (Usually fixed by waiting 24-48 hours)
- Depositing funds by card can require extra approval from our team (To protect us and our users from credit card fraud)
That said, we're grateful Sam was able to guide you through the process and your virtual cards are active and working! Thank you for choosing us.

Been looking for a service like this for 15 years!

Finally a virtual card that doesn't get rejected by Apple. I was looking for a way to pay for iCloud and AppleCare+ subscriptions for over a decade and Halocard is the only one that works!

Signing up and funding the card is super simple. When a transaction happens you get an email so it's easy to have visibility of your spending. You can create multiple cards and give each one a different limit.

Edward, who's the founder, is very responsive and really cares about the user experience. I'm so glad I found Halocard!

Amazing customer service

I was looking for a credit card solution to get access to some of the LLM’s that are not available in HK and cannot be accessed via VPN. I checked 10 different virtual card options - and HaloCard was the only one that offered a billing address option that was outside of my region and where I didn’t need to use crypto currency to top up the card or needed to be a registered company to sign up. The whole application for the card happened within 24hours.

But by far the reason why I would recommend HaloCard is the customer focus approach they have. I was initially hesitant to sign up worried that the company would be non responsive but Edward has responded to every single one of my questions in less than 15min of me sending the question via chat and went above and beyond what I needed help with. In addition, I had 1 transaction that didn’t go through for some reason and I forgot about it but the team investigated the problem and got it fixed right away.

I can’t describe how impressed I have been with what great customer service and fast responsiveness they have provided. HaloCard has been super reliable in terms of making transactions, I have only have 1 issue with 1 provider where the transaction didn’t go through and the team had fixed the issue for that right away.
