Not so Luxury House Builder
We purchased a new-build property from Granville Developments and, unfortunately, our experience since completion in June has been extremely disappointing.
The property was handed over in a dirty condition both internally and externally, and we were immediately faced with a long list of snagging issues. Several of these were clearly significant defects rather than minor snags. Despite repeated emails, updated lists, site visits and assurances, many of the problems have either not been resolved at all or required multiple contractor visits to fix issues that should have been identified and corrected at a much earlier stage.
One of the most concerning issues was with the heating and hot water system. Since moving in, we have had to rely on the immersion heater for hot water, which has significantly increased our energy bills. This situation went on for months before it was finally addressed, and only after repeated chasing on our part. We are now compiling a report detailing the financial impact this has had on us.
Communication has also been very poor. Requests for updates and target completion dates often go unanswered, and there has been no clear plan provided for resolving the outstanding defects. The lack of ownership and accountability has been extremely frustrating, especially considering this is a brand new home.
To make matters worse, there was also a delay with internet installation, which meant we had to pay out of pocket for an alternative solution in order to work from home — an additional cost we should never have had to incur.
Buying a new-build should provide peace of mind. Instead, it has caused ongoing stress, additional expense, and countless hours of chasing.
At this stage, we have no choice but to escalate this as a formal complaint and explore further options to have the remaining issues resolved.
I would strongly advise anyone considering purchasing from Granville Developments to do thorough research and be prepared for a potentially long and difficult snagging process.
