I changed a small amount of Argentinian money this morning on the airport of Florianopolis. That took more than 20 minutes. The bills litterary were count by hand five times. Than the bills got laid out by hand in the same direction, I had to fill in a formular in which to state my monthly income. Nobody spoke one word of English. Communication was zero anyway.

In Nicaragua. Told me you get a better rate exchanging more money so I exchanged double what originally planned and got looking a couple days later and took $200CDN in fees. What an absolute rip. Will never exchange with this company again. Obviously don’t get a better rate and hidden fees that are not disclosed and clearly lied to get the sale.

I would rate zero. At nice airport on 42 euros expectet vat tax refund I was told they can only give usd dollars. Why so they can scam you on the exchange rate. Imagine that a European country not having euro dollars in France. Give me a break. It’s their way of making money so the amount of tax that I actually returned was $25 US on $42 euros do the math that is outrageous and ridiculous. It’s the biggest scam ever this company should be locked up.

Do NOT use this company. I changed $100 USD in Terminal 2E Charles de Gaulle airport and the woman immediately pushed €55 at me through the windows. She refused to give a receipt. And refused to give me back my $100USD. The rate should have been 1.2 USD:Euros. She stole at least €30 from me. I had to go... but this company is rotten to the core. Thieves.

On 07/08/2025, at Bahrain Airport, we exchanged €930 at Global Exchange before flying to Egypt.
The result: we received 28,000 EGP (Egyptian pounds)… which is almost 50% less than the real market rate.
No staff member explained to us:
• That there would be a double conversion (EUR → Dinars → EGP) with cumulative fees,
• The exchange rate applied, which was completely disadvantageous,
• The huge amount of hidden commissions.
Worse: we were told it was “the best possible rate”. This is false — at the official rate of the day, we should have received over 50,000 EGP.
We therefore lost the equivalent of €450 in a single transaction!
We have all the proof (receipts, photos, dates) and demand an immediate refund or a quick solution, failing which we will contact:
• The management of Bahrain Airport,
• Consumer protection authorities,
• The media and travel forums.

Upon my arrival at the airport, I intended to exchange 1,000 Saudi Riyals. However, the employee informed me that it would be better to exchange 1,200 SAR, as it would equal 15,000 Turkish Lira. I agreed, but the employee only gave me 10,000 Turkish Lira. I discovered this when I paid the taxi driver who took me from the airport.
I am a Saudi woman traveling alone with two children. Why did the employee take advantage of me? When I asked for a receipt, he told me there was none.
There are security cameras, and I am able to identify the employee.
Therefore, I kindly request that you return my money and take appropriate action.

Beware of (Grupo) Global Exchange's scam & shady practices for VAT refunds. If you've ever have the misfortunate of being directed at BCN/MAD airport for VAT cash refunds, be extra vigilant. Their Customer Service Representative will claim that they can't refund you the VAT in EUR. That is an outright lie. They will offer you (to top up cash for) a refund in another currency such as USD, which they will apply a highly unfavorable exchange rate. Demand the refund in EUR only, without any currency exchange. You have been warned !!

I arrived at Fez airport in Marocco. I wanted to exchange euros and they insisted so much in providing a pre paid card where I could withdraw anywhere in Marocco. I exchange around 200€ which was around 2,030 dirhams. They gave me half in cash and the other cash supposedly was in my card. I tried to withdraw 509 dirhams and surprise. Nothing in the card. This is a scam. Refuse to get the pre paid card!!

I exchanged $1,000 at the Global Exchange counter in Barcelona Airport and received only €641, despite the mid-market rate that day being close to €875. That’s a €230 loss—with zero commission claimed on the receipt, but a predatory rate hidden in the fine print (1.5593 USD/EUR).
This isn’t a fair currency exchange—it’s financial exploitation of travelers who are tired, rushed, and trusting. The rate was not clearly explained, and once the transaction is complete, there’s no refund or recourse.
Global Exchange may technically operate within the law, but their practices are deceptive and intentionally confusing. Avoid at all costs. Use an ATM or an app like Wise or Revolut for better rates and transparency.
You deserve to start your trip without being taken advantage of.

Huge scam, can’t believe they are allowed to operate. Extremely unethical practice here, taking advantage of the language barrier to prey on travelers who are in a rush.
You are asked by the tax refund counter to get your cash tax refund back at this Global Exchange booth in terminal 1 BCN Barcelona airport. But alas, They are not a tax refund booth. They are a money changer, and they would take your tax forms but refuse to pay you in EUR. So you accept one of the currencies they quoted and turns out they quoted a rate that is more than 30% below market. We didn’t really catch that as they spoke through a small speaker behind glass windows, so we accepted as we thought this was the official tax refund booth.
Upon questioning after we realized, the guy behind the counter insisted that was the rate he saw on screen and he couldn’t do anything about it.
Huge scam - avoid at all costs.

I would rate a zero or NEGATIVE if I am actually able to.
I was at the Barcelona El Prat Airport and had a sizable amount of tax refunds that I wanted to receive in cash. When I asked the employee at the counter for a refund in EUR, he insisted that I could get back in any currency BUT NOT IN EUR. After much back and forth and insistence from the guy at the counter, I had no choice but to accept the cash refund in SGD (my local currency) as I was had to also rush for my flight. I was only informed of the extremely lousy exchange rate after he made me provide my signatures, and the rate was unethically low and way off from the prevailing exchange rate. When I asked him about it he just shrugged it off and insisted it’s all from the system. I am looking to report this to authorities because of their unscrupulous and unethical practices unless Global Exchange is able to refund me the difference.

As many other people have pointed out, Global Exchange is a completely SCAM and are trying to steal your money. Let's walk through what happened today at Malaga Airport:
I had a refund claim of 194 euros (184 after fees), and the woman from Global Exchange asked if I wanted the refund in USD or NOK. I said I wanted Euros, but she said it's not possible to receive euros. I then accepted USD since she said it has the best exchange rate.
Next, she asks if I can pay 27 euros so she can give me the refund in notes only, instead of notes and coins. After paying 27 euros, I received a refund of 135 USD in cash from the woman. I then told her that 135 USD is completely wrong, but she kept insisting "it's due to the currency exchange rate". I asked her to confirm the EUR/USD rate used, which she confirmed was 0.8 instead of the current market rate of 1.04.
Let's do the calculation: 184 (after fees) + 27 (paid by credit card) = 211 euros. This is how much I should receive in cash. Using the (scam) rate of 0.8, I should get 211*0.8 = 168.8 USD. Instead she only gave me 135 USD! So not only are they stealing 30% in exchange rate fees, they even blatantly lie in your face and give you the wrong amount in cash.
I had to argue with the woman for 10 minutes before she asked if I wanted to cancel the refund and get euros instead. I accepted that and eventually got the complete refund of 184 euros + refunded the 27 euros paid.
I then asked her why she first refused to give me euros when I asked, and her simple answer was "it's company policy". I asked again if she understands they are operating a scam business and stealing people's money, and her answer again was "it's company policy".
For anyone reading this, PLEASE insist to receive the refund in the original currency without any currency conversion. You might need to raise your voice or argue, but don't accept this bullshit and lies from this company's employees.

A case to be reviewed by the Federal Ministry of Finances for questionable practices under Federal banking rules and regulations.
I am appalled and in disbelief at the exchange rate used for my transaction. I asked for Polish Zlotys equivalent to Eur 1.500. I was in a hurry and not concentrating on what I was told nor what I signed. I admit to my lack of attention in this case but usually airport exchanges are fine, not the best, but a few percent off. I know this from having travelled the world in the last 45 years and using airport exchange services at many locations. In this case in Malaga airport, the rate used was 2.8126 when it should have been more like 4.27. This is outrageous for an institution in a major airport, to be conducting business in this way. This makes credit card intetest rates look tame in comparison. Tomorrow I will be contacting our company's corporate Counsel and will initiate formal complaints to all relevant Spanish Authorities, the Ministry of Finance, financial regulatory agencies, the National Police financial fraud division, in addition to the executive management of the Malaga airport. The EU's relevant authorities will be notified in the event that this company is carrying on with business in other EU countries. Last but not least, contact will be made with major newspaper publications, including English publications to elaborate on this story. No accusations are being made here and I will leave it to the Authorities to make their own conclusions after their investigations.
