Girls Guide Gone Wrong :(
I am extremely disappointed with my experience with this travel company and feel compelled to share an honest account so others can make an informed decision. I have traveled solo extensively w/ friends/family and w/other organized groups so I do understand that some circumstances are outside of one's control. I also understand that travel, especially in a group setting, requires professionalism, transparency, and accountability. Unfortunately, this experience fell short on all three fronts. What should have been a memorable and enjoyable trip turned into a stressful and disappointing ordeal
From the beginning, communication was subpar. We had meetings in the middle of the day during the week that lots of people, myself included could not attend. Most of the people who go on these trips are retired so it probably isn't an issue. But it would be nice to have had a Doodle poll to see when people were available. So we could all at least meet each other before the trip. Then there was political dissent/ burning of the capital in Nepal in Sept 2025. GGTTW emailed us all saying the trip would be postponed for 6mo. They did not outright cancel because then we'd be able to get a refund per their policy. I asked for a refund because who can plan their life 6mo later. They told me to take it up with travel insurance as they'd already paid the ground team. This is not an appropriate response nor an appropriate use of travel insurance. Suddenly the trip was still on and they admitted they handled things prematurely. The group wasn't happy but we already paid and were stuck. The people of Nepal are wonderful and have been through a lot and I was still excited to go. Then, the original group leader could not attend so they used someone who they later admitted they'd never used before - someone who had been to Nepal 7x and written a bunch of books about travel- of which we were constantly reminded. Despite traveling there often she knew nothing of the country and offered no guidance or education; she displayed very poor cultural sensitivity such as taking photos of people and their children without asking and treating a cremation like an event at the zoo. These people are suffering and wailing- I doubt we would do this at someone's wake. She had a condescending attitude the entire team despite us all being pretty high powered well traveled/educated professional women. She would make snide remarks to me including "wow you pronounced that really well"OK thanks, this is very similar to my native language. in no way did she ever try to get to know ANY of us or express any interest in our lives. She told us "oh in third world countries just throw money at the problem and it will go away". The correct term is developing nation. She was hopelessly disorganized, chaotic and rude to people on the trip. There was a family she was constantly in conflict with and would talk poorly about them to GGTTW and then poorly about GGTTW to the rest of the group so it created unnecessary tension. They were removed from the group chat at one point and she even made them cry. She raised her voice unnecessarily at two ladies who stopped at a shop. We had a lot of issues with transportation- we missed Pokhara entirely which was high on my list as Id never been before and I wanted to go to the evening aarti and share my culture with everyone. Weather is something we can't account for. What we can account for is being organized, checking flight schedules ahead of time and not constantly complaining and blaming the ground teams/ local guides. We got up at 4a, spent an entire day stranded at the crowded airport with our bags just sitting on the tarmac getting completely soaked! Everyone's clothes were ruined. Then the next day woke up again at 4a to sit at the airport for a 7a flight that every other tour guide knew was delayed until 10a. There was no one at the airport but us and our guide said she was just informed of the delay. The airport said the delays were issued the night before. Please take some accountability for your actions and be honest! When other people tried to step up to help her because she was obviously overwhelmed she snapped at them and told us to stop telling her how to do her job. We all have experience running teams efficiently so were just trying to help. she made us have a zoom meeting with GGTTW during the trip which Ive never had to do before on any travel experience ever. The messages from GGTTW on the group chat during this time were also unpleasant and frustrating. We were told we needed to be flexible, yet this is the schedule and it cannot be changed. Please read the other reviews in which a GGTTW guide QUIT in the middle of a trip! I would strongly advise prospective customers to seek clarity on all details in writing and carefully consider alternative providers before committing
