Szczegóły produktu

‘Banks has created one of the most enduring and endearing visions of the future.’
  1. Guardian
Iain M. Banks’ first science-fiction novel introduces one of the most iconic creations in speculative literature: the Culture, a far future interstellar civilization populated by humans and sophisticated artificial intelligences. From Horza’s last-minute escape, that starts the book with a literal bang, to the space pirates, orbital stations, deadly games and vast icebergs that populate this epic space opera, Banks barely gives the reader a moment to catch their breath. With an imagination as vast as the Culture itself, Banks was one of the true innovators of the genre, and Consider Phlebas is an electrifying first step into a remarkable universe. For this special illustrated edition, artist Dániel Taylor has created a breath-taking collection of images capturing the exotic thrills of a modern science-fiction classic, including a special hidden illustration printed on the inside of the slipcase. The binding is blocked in blue and orange foils, with a field of burning stars continuing onto the exterior of the slipcase; a spectacular finishing touch on an unmissable collectors’ edition.

It is still in it's waxed paper because it's a Christmas treat for myself and my partner. Heavy tome in a quite luxurious sleeve though. Christmas can't come soon enough as we both love this book.

Quality's as good as always, and the art is, as ever, a fantastic complement to the text. VfM, you're in an awkward position -- are you an excellent, but expensive, premium hardback? Or a bargain, entry-level, fine press?

I recently started purchasing quality books and will say that I was not particularly happy with another big publisher’s product, but Folio’s are absolutely wonde

An absolute must-have for Iain Banks fans. The first volume I've seen that really brings out the epic grandeur of this space opera. A little treasure of a book.

I have to confess, it's not my favourite Banks book (come on Folio, let's have The Bridge!) and in part I bought this to, hopefully, support future Folio editions (of the Crow Road!) whether Iain M. Banks (Feersum Endjinn!) or Iain Banks (Walking on Glass!) but the presentation undoubtedly enhances a significant work of modern sci-fi. A beautiful book.

Beautiful book, well bound, lovely paper. The only weak point is that the illustrations are a little lacklustre and generic. For example, the very first illustration corresponds poorly with the author's description of the ship. This rather undercuts the premium experience of the volume.
