The best free ATS I've found for a small business running serious hiring

I run a 40-person SME in Dubai and we're currently hiring across four roles simultaneously — finance, HR, sales, and an intern. Managing that volume without a dedicated recruiter is brutal, and Equip.co has genuinely made it workable.
The free ATS is the starting point, but what's kept me on the platform is the AI interview feature. It runs structured, consistent candidate screens without me being in the room, and the output is actually usable — not just a transcript dump. For a founder who was personally bottlenecking every hire, this changed the workflow meaningfully.
The chat support deserves a specific mention. Every time I've hit a wall — whether it was a configuration question or something more nuanced about how the screening logic works — the team has responded fast and actually resolved the issue. Not deflected, not pointed me to a help article. Resolved it.
There are a few areas I'd like to see improved — mainly around customisation of the additional requirements fields in job listings, and some UX friction when managing multiple active roles at once. But when I raised these directly with the team, the response was constructive and they're clearly iterating.
If you're a small business trying to run a credible, structured hiring process without an HR department, this is the tool. The pricing is fair, the AI layer is genuinely useful, and the team is responsive. Hard to ask for more at this stage.

DO NOT USE!!

I was sent here to do an assessment for a job. Their AI is very invasive the way they watch you through your camera and watch your computer screen already. Their site is extremely glitchy, and I was prompted to record a video in which their video recording system wasn't working. I contacted their support, and they didn't get back to me for SIX DAYS. If you know this job market, by that time I've already lost my opportunity. Their "customer service", Rachel and Ray in particular, is unprofessional, rude, and they don't listen to your issues. They don't have a single clue what they are doing and they just expect AI to do all their work for them. Companies, please just do your own work and stop relying on AI.

Hey Kaitlyn, like we mentioned on chat, we are terribly sorry that we didn't respond to you when you first reached out with the error you are facing. A delayed response for a critical function like a job opening is unacceptable, and we apologize that it occurred. We are taking steps to ensure it doesn't happen again. This is also why Rachel offered to coordinate with your recruiter directly, and tell them to consider your application even if it was delayed, as we hadn't gotten back to you on time.

We disagree with other characterizations in your review. Firstly, we allow recruiters to configure the proctoring settings. If they want to disable some of the settings, they can. The invasiveness is your recruiter's choice, not ours. And, to be fair to them, candidates cheat a lot on assessments, especially now that there is AI. So, it makes sense that they enable Proctoring.

The site isn't extremely glitchy - your own recruiter has used us for 1000s of candidates, and there have been no issues. The glitch was almost certainly due to something at your end (your device, your browser, etc) and that is why Ray and Rachel gave you very specific instructions on what you must do at your end so we can diagnose the issue. You declined to do it. If you just share screenshots of the error, it is impossible to know what went wrong. We went to great pains explaining this. You retorted by calling the team uneducated, which is not a very nice thing to say.

We are still open to working with you on this. Our offer to help diagnose the issue, and reaching out to your recruiter on your behalf, is still open.
