Not only they cannot provide any solution to people in need of help( the phone line is just a loophole)
Now they have become dangerous as they have managed to leave personal details out on the internet ready for anyone to access.
When you try to find out information they send you to this loophole telephone line to clear their hands.

I was very happy with the company's service!

I had my details passed to Shelter by a local housing office. This was back in March 2023…nearly SIX months ago! I’m now in a worse position than I was back then, when I was promised help, that I simply never received.

After receiving all of my personal details, an agent from Shelter called me…and for the first few calls, the agent seemed genuinely interested in helping me…things were looking promising.

But as the days turned to weeks, it just became a case of constant lies and broken promises…and the agent eventually developed an IDGAF attitude!

I spent hours on calls, providing Shelter with all of my personal information, (in order to receive help)…just to be fobbed off at the end. What was the point? They’re not there to help. Their staff are lazy, incompetent…and dishonest. Looking back in retrospect, it all seems like a scam to me.

The agent that was handling my case told me that she only had a few weeks to work with me…after this time, she would pass me on to another organisation to help me further. So she spent nearly 2 weeks taking all of my details, (this could have all been done in 1 phone call), then once she had all of my personal information, she just stopped calling.

I could sense that she had lost interest after a fortnight, because she stopped texting me too…and started to miss calls when she promised she would. On the odd occasion that she did call, her enthusiasm had all but gone…and to be honest, I was glad to be passed on to the next organisation - but that just never happened - even though she reassured me that she was in contact with them…and she was going to pass my details to them.

Nothing happened! No more calls, no more texts, no more emails, no new organisation…NOTHING!

Yet another company has harvested all of my personal details…and not helped me in the slightest.

It’s no surprise homelessness is so high! I’m not sure how they expect homeless numbers to go down if they just cut people off when they’ve gathered all the personal information they need.

I agree that some homeless people don’t want help. But for people like me, that get up and actually try to look for help through all the correct channels, to be fobbed off like this, just leaves a bitter taste in your mouth…and makes you feel like nobody can be trusted - not even a ‘reputable’ charity like Shelter.

I spotted a lamp I liked in the Sunderland store for a bargain of £5 on the shelter sticker but instead they wanted £10 which was on the side from the original seller.surely if it’s a donation from the original seller,why ask a customer to pay £10 when the shelter sticker said £5..not impressed !

Not overly impressed, they do not answer the phone and the online chat is the same too busy to answer A load of useless lip service and dead links in my opinion. The only reason I cannot get a place is all the flaming discrimination from estate agents and some landlords i.e. no pets no adverse credit no dss no this no that - doesn't matter if you have good landlord references, steady income and the property is affordable. That really sucks so why don't Shelter lobby for changes in this unfair referencing - housing should be a fundamental right - not really sure what they do but I have officially given up. The rental system is specifically designed that way to make it a living nightmare for anyone in debt, on dss has pets children or all 4. Hope they all get Karma in the biggest way

I can't believe these ungrateful one star reviews. Some are abusive. No wonder I can no longer get through to Shelter for the help I desperately need if this is the kind of people Shelter are having to deal with.

Shelter staff helped me leading up to Christmas with writing to my landlord on my behalf. Shelter supported me and without their continued support I will end up homeless.

I noticed someone below claiming Shelter keeps knocking on their door for money. I doubt it, but if they have had to resort to doing this then things must be really bad right now

Maybe the lady below who doesn't like a charity knocking at her door should donate in other ways. Or even better while her kids are sleeping she could go and feed the homeless. Or during the day she could work from home as a call handler for shelter or the Samaritans.

I'm devastated that such a great charity with nice giving individuals has come under attack. It's disgusting. I hope shelter pick up the phones soon because I could do with their support.

After growing tired of accosting people on the street it seems they're now targeting residential areas as I'm subjected to door knocking fundraising at 7:30pm while my kids are trying to sleep. Will never hand over money in this way; it should be illegal.

I called mutiple times over several days for advice and it always says the line is busy and hangs up.

just a joke, ring them for advice and they spent about an hour getting me "advice" which was no use for anything. bizzare. not entirely sure what they are for.
keeping landlords from evicting bad tenants seem to be what they do going by the other reviews.
shameful, these guys are pretty much the be all and end all of homeless charities in the uk.
They seem to exist to make it look like there is help,
unless the council want to help you, which is the advice they give everyone.
there isnt.
just some sort of scam to keep folk employed.

Kieran Hayden tried to scam me on my front door. After misleading me about a potential amount I would be donating (as little as 28p), conning me out of my personal details including bank details, telling me I was NOT signing up today… then hands me the phone and to my surprise all of a sudden I’m told that I’ve agreed to pay £10 a month?! I told him to get lost. He then comes back to my house! Again, told him to go away.

A week later and I find an email in my junk mail stating I’ve agreed to a direct debit. I certainly did not and that phone call is recorded. You wait till I call your company later today!

Another public service where it is impossible to speak to someone for housing advice, no contact number provided, no online chat available ever, just a website that send you around in circles. Got no help or advice whatsoever. Appalling service designed to help rouge landlords and estate agents get away with doing as they please.

Why are they still running this dodgy bussiness they are lairs misleading poor people putting people in danger they need to close down ungodly people.

Corrupt - they will make you homeless - do not give to this platform

They housed somebody upstairs from me who is making everybodies life hell in our flat complex, he's flooded my flat, argues regularly with the woman who lives opposite, constantly meaning the police are here on a regular basis. he kicks the communal front door in because he lost the key, setting the fire alarms off by bashing the panel every month, sub lets and last night decided to put a dog in his bathroom at 1am, before himself going back out again for the night. Leaving the dog there to bark the building down all night.
The flat up there was a housing association flat before shelter moved in, so they've actually taken a property away for normal people to rent, to give out to anti social people who make their neighbours lives an absolute misery. He's had numerous complaints put in about him, yet nothing is ever done.
Do not give to this absolute farse of a charity, who I'm sure destroy more people's lives, than help..

Been trying for two years to get advice, no one answers the phone, homeless now for three months

Corrupt. It there is nothing in it for them financially, they will not give a toss.

I have been made homeless because my HA had been extremely neglectful in the way they dealt with being harassed intensely by my neighbours, forcing me to leave. Shelter did NOTHING to help when i was in the thick of it. They want to hear your stories but does nothing to assist . They should be shut down, they are corrupt and only serve to protect and work alongside corrupt councils and HA

Useless service. They have an emergency number but you can never get through. Instead of having a queue, you have to keep hanging up and ringing back just to be told nobody can answer your call. Web chat is just as bad, never anyone available to help and have to keep refreshing the page to see if anyone is there but there never is at all when inside 9-5 window. If you're in an emergency housing situation and the website does not have the information to help, you're basically on your own as their support is incompetent and you won't EVER speak to anyone. There's no email either so these are the only ways

The manager of this store, Sharon, is a thief and an exploiter. I volunteered here a couple of years ago at this store, and couldn’t use my real name to even write this review because I’m dangerously aware from watching other volunteers, how horribly it can go when you leave or get forced out.
Things here used to be great, it was for the people who gave up their time and effort, so they could get value and help for our mental health in return, the man I started working for was understanding, empathetic, and he showed up for us.
When he was forced out and replaced, we had three incredibly caring managers come and go for a short while, but two were forced out the door and sacked after they confronted the newly appointed manager for both putting valuable donated items in her purse after “keeping them safe in the office”, and the other one when the same manager filled a black bag next to the outside bin for “rubbish we can’t sell” of old antique books, to be found putting them into the boot of her car whilst we were having a cigarette outside after our shift.
When we questioned it she said she was taking it to another store, and knowing an antique book worth £1000 had gone missing the same day she was confronted, we were then dismissed from our roles the next week.
This is the only place we have to tell our story, because after many attempts to highlight this to area management, they simply do not care.
Believe in solving a homeless crisis, please don’t allow shelter to do it for you.
I cannot explain how much a failure like this charity has made me realise how serious the homeless crisis really is.

So when i was 16 not so long ago, i was very aggresively collared by a Shelter fundraiser on a busy high street of a town i was visiting. She absolutely overwhelmed me where i couldn't get a word in edgeways for 5 minutes straight!! She then changed from telling me about homeless people to taking a motherly tone saying "can you give £x per month for these cold and starving homeless people" I then said "i can't". Of course being a 16 year old and i looked 16, it's a failing on her part that she didn't ask my age. i never used to carry cards and didn't have any money in them anyway, i didn't have money on me other than to eat or get the bus back and of course being 16 i couldn't set up a direct debit. After 4 more "no i can't"s she did the thing which will always stick with me and the reason i shall never donate to Shelter as long as i shall live "oh, but it's alright for you, tonight you will go into a nice warm home and eat nice warm food, you're lucky, but these people won't have that, why are you refusing to spare a few quid that will not mean much if anything to you". I was a kid and she unleashed more industrial strength guilt tripping. 10 minutes later i was finally free. An OUT AND OUT disgrace, if i could meet her now as a full grown adult, i'd have a few choice words. I'm still angry about it years later. Ok, it's a charity that can't control it's fundraisers but i'm sure there's ground rules and she truly did overstep them. I'd give 0 if i could, again not the charities fault despite recruiting her but there's a lot of keeping me sweet until this hugely negative experience will be forgotten by me.
