This system is dangerous
This system is dangerous. Does not help those with blood born infection or sepsis. Surgery answr machines spend more time telling you to spend 20 mins writing it down, which is difficult if condirion you have is confusion or cannot get across. This breaches equality act 2010 too
One of the worst patient-facing healthcare systems I’ve used
eConsult is clunky, badly designed, and fundamentally disconnected from how patients actually need to communicate with their GP.
Every time I have tried to use it, I have been forced to choose an inaccurate option or provide an answer that is not quite true simply to get through the workflow. It lacks even basic choices such as “I need to message my GP.” Instead, it assumes every interaction can be forced into one of its predetermined clinical pathways, whether or not that pathway reflects what the patient is trying to do.
The result is a system organized around rigid clinical categorization rather than the patient’s actual need. The questions are often repetitive or irrelevant, the available answers are too restrictive, and a straightforward request becomes a frustrating obstacle course.
I have worked with healthcare record systems including Epic, athenahealth, eHealth, and custom-built in-house platforms. I understand that clinical systems must support triage, safeguarding, and structured data collection. Those requirements do not excuse a poor patient experience. Good healthcare software should gather the necessary information while making it easier for patients to communicate accurately. eConsult repeatedly makes that harder.
This is particularly serious because people are expected to use it when they may already be ill, worried, in pain, cognitively impaired, or otherwise vulnerable. If technically capable users have to select incorrect answers simply to proceed, the design has failed.
The patient-facing experience is the part that matters most. On that measure, eConsult is one of the worst healthcare systems I have used. One star.
It feels like I’m being refused to see…
It feels like I’m being refused to see a doctor I have tried three times even complaining to the practice manager but can’t see anyone to look at my skin yes they have seen photos but that’s not the same. Now looking at going private.
The system is clunky and time wasting
The system is clunky, asks for info that is already in the NHS system and does wrongly assume that the start point for wanting to contact your surgery is a specific symptom, and the surgery doesn't allow you to fill it in at the weekend
What waste of time and energy
What waste of time and energy, went theought the process twice and twice I DID NOT get an appointment wven though I was wheezing. Had to call my GP where the staff are able to fill in the form for you and make it a priority. Wasted my whole morning to get an appointment the secretary told me u would get right away with econsult. This honestly feels like a cheap way to reduce appointments and make the NHS look like it's not busy. Pathetic service from a once world envied national health service. And the TAX payer got robbed, its a useless worthless service.
I did an econsult with my surgery on…
I did an econsult with my surgery on May 5th and I cannot speak to a GP until May 22nd
That is disgraceful having to wait 2 weeks
Absolute garbage
Complete waste of 10 minutes, answered the long winded questionaire and it told me to seek medical advice. That was what I tried to do in the first instance, and my GP forwarded me to this AI slop. Two tries on two different occasions, same result. There wont be a third. ZERO STARS.
Once my surgery was open
Once my surgery was open, I headed for e-consult, there was no problem accessing it and it diverted me immediately to A&E whom looked after me so quickly and so well. Within 4 days I’ve been able to have tests I needed and a specialist appointment within two weeks So fingers crossed it’s not as serious as they are expecting, but thanks to e—consult I’ll know very soon.
eConsult not fit for purpose.
This is the second time I tried to use eConsult. The Forms are long winded and very time consuming. I'm an older person quite good with dealing with Laptop/Computer and I found completing quite taxing. There must be a large part of the population struggling or not able to use this service. I cant see how eConsult helps the general public and GP surgeries to process the information sent as some information complete irrelevant.
Have to use this piece of rubbish many…
Have to use this piece of rubbish many times. It's not intuitive, gets you to pretend certain things, or gets you to go to A@E.
The developers must use private health care, cos this is dog s**t.
Backward
It’s really a filter system. It saves no time what’s so ever. Because if you do get an appointment and it’s either not ideal or you have to cancel it. The call Waite times are so long you eventually have to hang up. People do have to work. So you can’t sit on your phone for 40 mins. So if they wish to have this system then they also need to have a better call system to support it. There’s no reason why they can’t have a text that reminds you of your appointment. And reply with. Keep or cancel yes or no. This frees up reception lines and appointments are not wasted. This is such a backward system
This deserves no stars
This deserves no stars. Having worked in IT all my life whoever designed and approved this should be lined up against a wall and shot.
This form is clunky to complete
This form is clunky to complete, repetitive and tedious . It's so busy trying to establish if you have a life threatening condition anything less serious is either impossible to enter or repeated multiple times. It needs an overhaul. Surely in 99% of life threatening issues you wouldn't complete a form your doctor can take up to 48 hours to respond to, you would be calling 111 or 999?
This service is dreadful
This service is dreadful. Poor customer service at a time when people are at their most vulnerable. The clinician didn't even read the consultation wording so the email reply was completely unrelated to the problem. No wonder A&E is so busy some doctors surgeries are not fit for purpose any more.
Econsult - a direct risk to patient safety
This software is a direct risk to patient safety. It is not user friendly and not easily accessible for a lot of people. It is restrictive as to when it is available for use and should be available for submissions 24 hours a day. It is almost as if it is designed deliberately to put people off and/or to push people towards attending already over stretched hospital casualty departments.
Dreadful system
Dreadful system, asking all sorts of questions of irrelevant questions at a time when all you need is medical help. Coupled with its poor implementation of AI is really a setback for the NHS
I have at least 5 long term problems
I have at least 5 long term problems, liver, blood pressure pre-diabetic, and spinal/cervical stenosis as well as osteoarthritis.
This system tells me I have a heart attack, am having a stroke and it cannot help with my symptoms so get urgent medical help WTH 😒
Phone the doctors only to be told cannot book an appointment unless go through e consult first and to go back and re-do it! I did, I lied, if only to get the system to allow a triage Appt..
Now the doctor has booked me in for MSK TRIAGE, Been there before and it's NOT what I need so.. I'm signing up to private medical health now, Amsolutely disgraceful system..
GET RID NHS!
A useless tool created to confuse…
A useless tool created to confuse patients and therefore doctors. My wife's doctor uses ask my gp a very user friendly app.
If I had ticked all the box's in econsult I would undoubtedly have been rushed to hospital. The app does not allow for this happened once. Not tick the box I have this all the time. Seeing a doctor is the best thing for patients
A shockingly bad piece of software, poorly Beta-tested.
A shockingly bad piece of software, which over promises and under delivers. The link between the (very good) NHS app to my GP is not live, yet my GP service says I must book via the eConsult service. When I used the eConsult diagnosis tool, it told me that my symptoms indicated that I needed to have an urgent consultation, but that it could not facilitate a booking and to call the surgery! The eConsult then timed out while I was on hold awaiting my GP to answer my call, losing all the date I'd entered! To other surgeries: DO NOT USE THIS SYSTEM ... IT DOES NOT WORK ... (age 62, fully tech-savvy, professional, trained first-aider - so, it's not me, its the system!)
