Review: Very poor experience with Easicampers – Unjustified charges and complete lack of response

I rented a Zefiro 675 motorhome from Easicampers for an 8-day trip at the beginning of August. Although we kept them updated on our exact arrival time, the vehicle was not ready when we arrived. It was cleaned hastily and poorly, leaving the motorhome dirty upon handover. Prior to departure, I left a £350 security deposit. (I strongly advise everyone to thoroughly inspect and document everything before starting your tour). During the trip, while parked legally in a parking space, another motorhome reversed into us, causing minor damage to the front left side of our vehicle. We immediately notified the rental agency and sent photos of the damage along with the agreed accident statement form for insurance purposes. They advised us to continue our journey. Upon returning the vehicle, the toilet cassette was half full. At pickup, no one had informed us that it needed to be emptied prior to return, and we mistakenly assumed there would be a disposal point at the depot. The staff informed us there was a penalty for this: they stated the standard fee was £250, but "just for today" they would charge us £150. Instead of deducting this from the deposit, they charged a separate transaction directly to my credit card. Only later, upon checking the contract provided, did I notice that the actual penalty specified in the agreement for an unemptied toilet was £100, not £150.

Furthermore, my entire £350 security deposit was retained, resulting in an unjustified total charge of £525 without any formal explanation, invoice, or breakdown of costs.

I sent two follow-up emails in the days following the return to request clarification and a refund, but after more than a week, I have received no response whatsoever.

Touring Scotland in a motorhome is an incredible experience that I highly recommend to everyone; however, based on this experience, I strongly advise against renting from Easicampers due to their lack of transparency, cleanliness, and nonexistent customer service.

Alquilamos una caravana y fue una experiencia horrible. Nos la dieron tarde, sucia, faltaban un montón de cosas que tuvimos que pedir. El agua sin rellenar, sensación de mal cuidada, dos armarios rotos, una persiana de la cama también. Olor en el baño, todas las tuberías atascadas, en consecuencia, la ducha inutilizable. Había chinches que picaron hasta 80 veces a una persona. Alquilamos mesa y sillas y nos ponían unas rotas, pedimos cambio y, aun así, una de ellas rota. Menaje de cama, faltaban almohadas (también lo cobran). Alguna cosa que me dejaré...pero en resumen, nada recomendable la experiencia, vacaciones para olvidar!

Fuyez! J'ai malheureusement ignoré les avis négatif avant de réserver, et je m'en mors les doigts. Ils nous ont encaissé la caution de 1500£ sans nous prévenir, pour une dégradation que nous n'avons pas du tout commise. Nous avons signalé le problème au tout début de notre location quand nous l'avons découvert et alors qu'ils étaient adorables et rassurant à l'agence, leur réponse a été directement accusatrice, sans écouter ni tenir compte des preuves que nous n'y étions pour rien. Accuser les clients alors que ce sont eux les responsables de la vérification de leurs véhicules avant de le louer, nous donner des injonctions et des menaces une fois qu'on signalé qu'il y a un soucis alors qu'ils étaient hyper rassurant à la livraison de leur aide pour n'importe quel petit soucis, puis semblez très compréhensif à la restitution du véhicule, pour finalement nous prélever 1500£ dans notre dos sans nous prévenir à aucun moment, je pense qu'on peut qualifier ça de grosse arnaque ou fraude commerciale. Ce qui nous est arrivé peut vous arriver! Ça vous pourrira vos vacances plus votre retour de vacances avec des heures de démarches pour prouver votre bonne foie sans certitude aucune de revoir votre argent un jour. Cette expérience nous a dégoûté. Nous n'avons pas à subir les dégradations des locataires précédents pendant toute la durée de notre location, plus ensuite avoir à payer 1500£ pour les dégradations qu'ils n'ont pas signalées et que l'agence n'a pas décelée.

The value for money was very good.
The handover, explaining how to use everything was very clear and comprehensive.
The campervan itself (VW California) was excellent.
Would definitly use Easicampers again and highly recommend them.

Hired a VW California Grand from Easicampers Preston. All staff were friendly and helpful and communication was great throughout. We enjoyed our 10 day trip around Scotland in the van. We had one minor query whilst on the road which we emailed as it was out of hours. We received a prompt and clear response. Very happy with the service and vehicle.

The service is absolutely not worth the price we paid. Firstly, on the first day, the touchscreen didn’t work. We reported it immediately, but no solution was offered. After just one day, the battery broke down, and we had no water or heating. We spent the night inhaling the toxic smell of the faulty battery.
The only solution offered was for us to drive for 2 hours and 35 minutes with the unbearable smell to return the motorhome. A second motorhome was provided, but no compensation or offer was made. Finally, we were told we would be reimbursed for the first tank of gas, which allowed us to return and pick up the second vehicle. To this day, we still haven’t received the transfer.
Our experience was completely ruined by a total lack of professionalism, and I strongly advise against Easy Camper.

We purchased a 6 year old Fiat Auto Trail from Easicampers almost a year ago, costing £38,000.
The delivery process was shockingly bad - delayed twice, and promised work to rectify a range of snagging issues had still not been addressed when we took delivery - a few remain outstanding today!!!!!
Six weeks later, the engine suffered a catastrophic failure, leaving us stranded by the side of the M1, 200 miles from home.The AA relayed us home, dropping the van at our local garage. Inspection of the engine showed the cause to be the timing belt, which had been incorrectly fitted. ( prior to our purchase). This was later confirmed by a second independent engineer’s report by an AA recommended company ACE.
Dozens of emails and phone calls to Easicampers left us going round in circles. Two months later, and various trips postponed, we took the decision to spend £15500 to have a new engine fitted so that we could at least use the van.
Despite further formal communication with Easicampers including an offer to participate in ADR ( Alternative Dispute Resolution ), and a lawyer’s letter, Easicampers simply ignored us.
One final attempt by us to talk directly to the company owner Nick Hanley, was once again ignored over 3 consecutive days The message was then left for him that we intended to post scathing reviews online. This FINALLY prompted a written response, threatening us with a defamation claim if we went ahead with this!!!!!
We are now left with no option but to initiate court proceedings.
We would definitely NOT RECOMMEND purchasing a vehicle from this company.

I bought an ex hire VW California from Easicampers. It was the best experience I've had in buying a vehicle because they did something I've never seen before; When I looked at the van they photographed any small marks or things that weren't perfect, they asked me to point out anything I noticed that could be improved and photographed that. This was so that when I picked the van up we could go through all the pictures and check everything was fixed. They put a new pop top canvas on it just because there were two tiny holes in the current one, that was instead of putting a small patch on it.

Ted and the rest of the team are very enthusiastic about the vans, they also threw in a few free items I didn't expect.

I did have to take it back a few days later when the heater wasn't working but their technician came out and fixed it right away while I waited. They also went over all the technical controls and set up and all the physical stuff like the best way to move seats and shelves around.

I would easily recommend them and go back if I ever wanted another van.

Recently bought an ex rental california from Easycampers, the staff at Wigan were excellent and they worked hard and delivered the van in show room condition ,really pleased with it ,Graham was very helpful,and so was Ted the owner of the company, nothing was too much trouble, thanks a lot to all involved, Dave and Louise

Driving a van in Scotland is not a good idea there are crappy rod and verry narrow van does not pass then renting it with this company is event worst. I broker a mirror I have been charge 400poûd while the official fiat part is half the price the. When I gave back the van we all signed there were no damages yet they charged me 250 pounds for nothing. They are liars and thiefs. Avoir this brand if you dare driving a van in Scotland but it the worst idea of your life

This is our third booking with Easicampers (Wigan) and i think that speaks for itself.

This last trip was 16 nights in an autotrail expedition 66, the van had absolutely everything you could need from kettle, pans, crockery and utensils all you need to provide is towels and bedding.

We travelled a total of 1660 miles , island hoping around Scotland.

We loved our 'Van' she was extremely comfortable and gave us so much freedom.

Would definitely recommend Easy campers for any one interested in renting a camper van in Iceland

Could not recommend enough! Absolutely amazing experience all the way through. Very friendly and helpful staff makes hiring and return process stress free. Modern fleet of vehicles so you don’t have to worry about being cold at night, regardless of what weather is is . Will definitely use again👍🏻

Just got back from a week away after hiring an Autotrail 67 from the Wigan branch. It was the first time we have hired from them and everything was great. Staff are all very friendly and helpful. We are already thinking of hiring another camper from them in the near future

Pour commencer, ils ont essayer de nous donner un van, de catégorie inférieure et moins cher, alors que nous avions louer un camping car.
Lorsque nous avons obtenu le bon véhicule, le réservoir de carburant était vide, pour s’éviter un déplacement, le responsable nous a demandé de faire le plein et de lui rapporter la note à notre retour de séjour, ce que nous avons fait.
Depuis le mois d’août, après un mois d’attente, je demande presque toutes les semaines, par mail, WhatsApp et téléphone qu’ils nous remboursent les 100 livres (environ 120 €), sans succès.
J’en fais désormais une affaire de principe.
Je tiens à disposition, tous les échanges que j’ai bien pris la précaution d’enregistrer aux fins de preuves. J’ai fini par trouver les coordonnées du boss (Nick.hanley@) à qui j’ai écrit personnellement, il préfère faire l’autruche.
Soyez vigilant, respectez les conditions à la lettre pour ne pas vous faire arnaquer !

Une véritable escroquerie ! Soyez très prudent, car vous êtes obligés de prendre une assurance à tarif exorbitant, il y a une tentative de vous louer un Van de catégorie inférieure par rapport à la réservation effectuée et enfin obligation de payer deux pleins à l'aller et au retour ! Il y avait promesse de remboursement en juillet 2024, et nous attendons encore!!!

Rien à redire que la location de notre van (qui s'est tout de même transformé en camping-car avant notre arrivée suite à un problème mécanique sur le van réservé). Au top.
