First class service from Jack at Durham Electrics and Fire. Came to look at mystery short circuit problem and resolved it within the hour. Very thorough and knowledgeable and friendly too. Would highly recommend.

Full power failure rang Lloyds home emergency at 6pm. Stephen from Durham Electrics rang at 7:30pm same day and was here by 8pm totally professional and done would he could to give us power and heating. All this on a Sunday night.

I had work completed today by Durham Electrics, five new lights fitted. The service, professionalism and friendliness from Stephen was excellent, I would recommend the company to anyone wanting electrical work carried out. Thanks again.

I didn’t know what the problem was with a light fitting in the bathroom but was attended to and fixed in a very efficient manner

Durham electrics assisted in the connections to an external shed that we had built recently, small job and to be honest 3 other electricians came looked and never got back to me.

Nothing was an issue for them!

Engineer was very polite and very jovial for the 2 hours he was at the house even working in the wind didn’t phase him.

Fantastic Service
From contacting the office to having an engineer on site was seamless and reassuringly easy! We recently had Durham Electrics to our property via our insurer Hastings for an issue with our power tripping off. The engineer who came out was very nice and polite. He narrowed the issue down to a section of cable in our kitchen and restored the power to the rest of the house.

We subsequently then engaged the company to continue the repair outside the scope of our insurance policy and to also quote for recommendations made by the initial electrician.

There was a delay of 4 days before they could undertake the repair work but as we only had 2 sockets not working this was not an issue, The consumer unit and earth was also brought up to standard for a very reasonable price (a little bit more expensive but very comparable to local sole traders)

Overall I’m so happy with the service provided and for meeting 2 brilliant electricians who reassured me through out the process.

I’ll be back in touch when o need my bar connecting up in the garage

Plus Heat’s Useless Policies and Durham Electric’s Unsafe and Incompetent Service

Background: In late August, a power outage affected part of my home, so I contacted my "emergency" insurance provider, Plus Heat. I'd paid for their premium policy for years, expecting swift and reliable service in emergencies. However, their response, like Durham Electric’s service, turned out to be deeply disappointing.

Initial Contact with Plus Heat and Durham Electric: When I reported the issue, Plus Heat appointed Durham Electric to investigate. Despite the urgency, it took three full days to send an engineer and I had to take time off work for half a day. When the engineer arrived, he spent an inordinate amount of time on his phone and struggled when addressing the electrical issue. After about an hour, he confessed he couldn’t find the fault and blamed it on not having enough time allocated for the job. This unprofessionalism was alarming, especially the fact our downstairs ring main was off.

After complete silence, a few days later, Plus Heat informed me that my policy didn’t cover the specific fault. I was then told it would cost nearly £400 for any further fault-finding in addition. This left me infuriated, especially since I had been paying for their premium insurance for years, only to discover it was a complete waste of time. Their customer service and emergency response were pitiful.

Frustrated, I cancelled the insurance and decided to deal with Durham Electric directly, assuming they could pick up where they left off, given the engineer had already visited my home.

Repeated Failures and Lack of Accountability: I contacted Durham Electric multiple times, making it clear that cost wasn’t an issue and I just wanted the problem fixed. Despite numerous calls requesting a follow-up visit, pricing information, or simply a response from management, I received nothing but silence. Their lack of communication and unresponsiveness transformed a relatively simple issue into a drawn-out and exhausting ordeal.

This level of neglect from both Plus Heat and Durham Electric demonstrated how little regard they have for their customers, even in urgent situations.

Resolution by a Local Electrician: After weeks of waiting in vain, I hired a local electrician. Within an hour, he identified and resolved the fault. Worse yet, he discovered that Durham Electric’s previous engineer had left my electrical system in an unsafe and unprofessional condition, with improperly connected wires and issues which could have led to further hazards. For this quick and competent service, I paid £120, a fraction of what Plus Heat tried to charge for unnecessary fault-finding.

Request for Compensation Ignored: Given Durham Electric’s failure to resolve the issue, the unsafe conditions they left behind, and the weeks of delays, I sought compensation for the £120 I paid the local electrician and the £100 excess paid to my insurance. Despite multiple attempts to get a response, Durham Electric never responded, reflecting their complete disregard for their customers and accountability. I expect a hierarchical decision from the top as the lady on the switchboard was always pleasant and helpful but clearly poorly supported.

I also contacted Plus Heat, requesting a refund for their useless policy after years of premiums, but they never responded either. Their failure to even acknowledge my request further illustrates their poor customer service and lack of responsibility.

Conclusion – Plus Heat’s Premium Policy and Durham Electric’s Service Are Unreliable: Plus Heat’s premium insurance policy was a total waste of time. Their poor customer service and lack of emergency support left me facing a £400 fee for further fault-finding, prompting me to cancel the policy altogether. Even my request for a refund was ignored, proving their disregard for customer satisfaction.

As for Durham Electric, their failure to identify the fault, their unsafe workmanship, and their utter lack of communication made this experience even worse. Electrical work requires precision and care, which Durham Electric clearly lacks. Their incompetence and unprofessionalism make them a company that no one should trust, especially for critical home electrics.

For anyone considering either Plus Heat’s insurance policy or Durham Electric’s services, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere for providers that value safety, communication, and customer care.

I had a complete house re wire which I was dreading. Thanks to Patrick and Steven who were very helpful keeping mess to a minimum. They worked really hard every day and were professional and friendly with nothing being too much trouble. Thanks to everyone at Durham Electrics were were helpful and efficient every time I contacted them. I would definitely recommend this company.

Jeff came out on a call (through Homeserve) travelling down to Mirfield in West Yorkshire. Incredibly professional, knowledgeable and created a report to send back to them (as a previous company sadly did not have the knowledge), many thanks and would highly recommend.

Steve came out to look at why my electric boiler wasn’t powering up. He traced the fault to the isolator switch which had been wrongly wired and burnt out. He has expertise as a fire safety inspector too and pointed out a couple of other issues that he also fixed at the same time. Rates are very reasonable given it was an emergency call out. Can definitely recommend him.

Darren is friendly, helpful and efficient. His workmanship is exemplary and he clearly has up to date knowledge on current legislation, which, as landlord of an HMO, I find reassuring. His record keeping means he is aware of when the next round of checks are due and he was kind enough to help with pre licence checks, to ensure the house passed with flying colours.

fast and efficient! had an issue with our electrics going off.
durham electrics came out within 2 hours sorted the problem quickly and with no fuss. Problem was a burnt out switch in the fuse box and i was surprised they had a part! on speaking with the electrician he told me that they keep a stock of most things to get some one up and running even if only temp.

Solved problems created by others. Good staff, reliable friendly and fair.
