powerful but slow - and that's good
I used dupeGuru to help sort through a large photo and video cleanup project. OneDrive is only one of the places where I store some of my photos, videos, and other files, but even just that section had around 24,000 images to review.
This is not a fast process. At the slowest pace, that scan can take roughly 48 hours, so this is very much a “set it and forget it” type of tool. Let it run, don’t panic, and don’t expect instant results.
One important thing to understand: if your files are stored in OneDrive as cloud-only files, dupeGuru may cause OneDrive to download them locally while it reviews and compares them. So before starting, make sure your computer has enough free space for those files to download during the scan.
Could you speed it up? Yes. You could scan smaller folders, run exact-duplicate checks first, or download everything locally before scanning. But for treasured photos and memories, I’m not sure faster is always better. I would rather have the tool take its time and let me review the results carefully than risk losing something important.
Overall, dupeGuru is slow, but effective. For cleaning up years of photos and files, especially across OneDrive or similar storage, it is a very useful tool as long as you are patient and careful before deleting anything.
