Let’s see the farms…
Although the staff were very friendly and informative, I just couldn’t get a dog from here. After visiting with the children we told some friends who encouraged us to watch a channel 4 documentary (Kyle Thomas). I am now relieved we didn’t walk away with a pup. I could not fund an organisation like this. They seem to use licences (which are important) to justify what’s going on.
The obvious question that begs to be answered is “why Northern Ireland?”
And why no photos of your facility over there if it’s “state of the art”
If there’s nothing wrong or upsetting about where these dogs come from, let’s see an accurate account. A video of the living situation for all the mums. This would put a lot of us at ease and silence the doubters.
Hopefully these questions will be answered truthfully and not deflected with the “we are fully licensed” rhetoric.
I recommend anyone serious about buying a puppy to visit the Cockapoo Club of Great Britain’s Approved Breeders page. They list all CCGB inspected and approved breeders.

These licences apply not only to puppies, but to all breeding dogs, accommodation, enrichment, veterinary oversight, staffing ratios, record-keeping, and inspection regimes. Our licences are renewed following physical inspections, not based on images, videos, or marketing material.
Northern Ireland operates under its own animal welfare legislation, which is equivalent in welfare standards and is routinely used by many UK breeders due to differences in administrative structure — not differences in welfare expectations. This is well understood within the regulated breeding sector.
Edited television programmes and social-media commentary — including the Channel 4 documentary referenced — are not evidence, are not produced by regulatory bodies, and do not form part of any licensing, enforcement, or inspection process. Our facilities are assessed by qualified inspectors and veterinary professionals with statutory authority, not by media outlets or influencers.
With regard to imagery, licensing authorities do not require breeders to publicly publish footage of breeding facilities, nor would doing so accurately reflect daily operations, inspection standards, or animal welfare compliance. I would wholeheartedly like to take up the invitation of viewing your licenced breeding facilities to clear up any preconceived misconceptions potential puppy purchasers may have.
Should I contact your Clabby Road premises directly for this,or make the appointment through yourselves?
Transparency of your breeding operation via first-hand evidence will, I'm sure help with people's negative concerns over your reputation.

We recently bought our puppy from Douglas Hall Kennels and couldn’t be happier. Our little Clover has settled in so well and has been an absolute joy. She was 10 weeks old when we brought her home and is now 4.5 months—healthy, happy, and thriving.
I’ve already been asked where we got her, and I’m always happy to recommend Douglas Hall Kennels. They’ve been amazing from the start and are always just a phone call away whenever we need advice. Their support has made the whole experience so reassuring.

Douglas Hall Kennels were wonderful…
Douglas Hall Kennels were wonderful from start to finish. They clearly care for their pups and their welfare and that shows in the temperament of the pups. We have one and so do our friends and both are beautifully adjusted boys.
They said repeatedly they'd rather take a dog back than see it in rescue and I think that shows their care and lifelong commitment to their pups.
They were willing to hold our pup an extra few days whilst we waited for some money to come in and were generally really friendly, really flexible and really very good all round.
Wholly recommend, my best dog buying experience by far.

Watch Channel 4 documentary ‘I exposed the UK’s biggest puppy farm’
I urge anyone who is considering purchasing a puppy from here to please watch the Channel 4 Documentary ‘I exposed the UK’s biggest puppy farm’.
The puppies for sale at this facility are not bred where they are sold. They are actually bred in Northern Ireland, at a facility with over 900 dogs in disgraceful conditions.
Please also note these puppies are separated from their mothers to then be transported all the way from Northern Ireland to this business in Burnley. Under UK law, it is a legal requirement to show puppies with their biological mother at the place where they were bred and raised. This kennels will be unable to adher to this law, so I beg anyone visiting to ask to be shown the mother.
It’s essential to see the puppies parents, or at least mother, to ensure the dog is healthy and will not have any future healthy conditions. Furthermore, puppies need to be with their mothers to learn essential social and behavioural skills.
I’m a huge animal lover and have a dog myself (I saw both parents and the place where the puppy was born) which is why I felt obliged to leave this review after seeing the documentary.
Please like I say, watch this documentary before buying a dog from here, also research the Hamilton farm in Northern Ireland (has now changed its name to the UK Dog Breeding Academy) which is where these puppies are actually bred.
Purchasing a dog is a huge commitment and a massive purchase so ensuring you have as much information as possible about the dog and it’s parents is essential, especially to avoid future heartbreak if the puppy did have any hidden health conditions.

Avoid this puppy farm…
Re-Homed my dog from someone who purchased her from here.. been exposed as a puppy farm.. AND IT ALL MAKES SENSE!! She is scared and traumatised by everything, we got her at 2 years old and her back legs were done! Ones already had to have corrective surgery to fix the issue, but she will have problems for the rest of her life! And she’s only 4 now! I’m fuming!!
Luckily we will give her an amazing life, and try and subdue the pain she will be in, no dog should be born to just be stock, there is also clearly a lack of care for bad breeding habits! As long as they can make their money!
CLOSE THEM DOWN!!!
Can reply all you want, we’ve dna tested our dog too and she’s 3 breeds not the 2 you “advertised” her at. Absolutely shameless.

We strongly refute the claims made in this review and do not consider it a credible or accurate reflection of our business, for the following reasons:
• No record of contact – At no point were we contacted by the original purchaser, or by the reviewer, regarding any health, mobility, or welfare concerns. All new owners are clearly advised to contact us immediately should any issue arise. We have no record of a puppy from us presenting with “back leg issues” or requiring corrective surgery.
• Puppy was not returned to us – We are extremely clear with all owners that if, for any reason, they can no longer keep one of our dogs, the puppy must be returned to us. We never want to see our dogs rehomed, sold on, or placed into rescue environments. The fact this dog was rehomed elsewhere without our knowledge is a significant red flag.
• Unknown living conditions – As the breeder, we cannot be held responsible for how a dog may have been treated, exercised, injured, or managed in a previous home over a period of years. Without being informed or given the opportunity to assess the dog ourselves, it is impossible to attribute later-life issues to us.
• Health & breeding standards – All our puppies are vet health checked, vaccinated, microchipped, and sold with full documentation. We do not breed from parents known to have hereditary conditions and we stand by our dogs for life.
• Misleading and defamatory language – The term “puppy farm” is both inaccurate and defamatory. Douglas Hall Kennels is a fully licensed, council-inspected breeder, operating transparently and in compliance with DEFRA and local authority regulations.
• DNA testing claims – We cannot verify or comment on private DNA tests carried out years later, particularly where lineage, rehoming history, and environmental factors are unknown.

Please don’t buy from this place. Our rescued beagle came from the northern Irish largest puppy farm in the UK where the dogs for Douglas Hall are bred. My 4.5 year old beagle is terrified of people, clearly been abused, covered in scars. Scared of everything and is clearly over bred. If you buy from these people you’re buying from people who really don’t care about dogs. They care about money. Take a look at the YouTube documentary about it. It’s disgraceful. My poor rescue stayed in a kennel her whole life, bred and bred until she was no use, and given up for rehoming. Please don’t fund these horrible places.

Thank you for your message. I genuinely am not sure how anyone believes we “copy and paste” responses — every reply we send is written personally to the individual customer and their specific situation.
Dogs, just like humans, are living creatures. As much as we all wish it weren’t the case, puppies and dogs can occasionally fall ill in the same way children and adults do. Even with the highest standards of care, no breeder — or family home — can ever guarantee that a living animal will never develop a health issue.
As a licensed and regulated breeder, we follow all rules and welfare requirements set out by DEFRA and our local authority. This is why we are able to trade legally and transparently.
We also do not knowingly breed from any parents with hereditary or PRA-related issues, and we carry out the required health checks before breeding.
Most importantly, we stand by our puppies for life. At handover, we explain our full aftercare, including the fact that if a hereditary issue is ever confirmed by a qualified vet, we offer a full refund. Very few breeders offer this level of aftercare or accountability.
We obviously never want a single puppy or dog to experience any issue — our animals mean everything to us — but we also have to be honest that all living creatures, including humans, can sadly become unwell at times through no one’s fault.
I’m truly sorry for your loss, and for anyone who has gone through something so heartbreaking. But we can only continue doing what we have always done: operate legally, responsibly, transparently, and support every family to the best of our ability.

We visited this breeders and sadly and concerning we did not find reviews of what people had said was certainly not our experience...the approach to the buildings where puppies were housed was very run down dirty and shabby .. on entering the various rooms puppies kept in were untidy with puppies bedding was scraps of torn white paper which was getting trodden all over the place.. some if the younger puppies were huddled together with no energy and appeared scared when trying to approach them .. we asked where they were bred and we were told from Northern Ireland .. so obviously that is a long journey for such young puppies. Some of the puppy pens had a very unpleasant smell .. no staff came to us to talk to us and welcome us etc .. we came away without a puppy feeling very upset that this establishment is not hood enough and feel very concerned about the set up ...as as we say so surprised that they have got such good reviews ...

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We are genuinely sorry to hear that your visit did not reflect the experience we are known for, as you can see from many customers whom have taken time to leave their feedback.
To help us fully understand your concerns, could you please let us know what day and approximate time you visited, and whether you checked in at reception, as requested on the large signage at the entrance? All visitors are asked to report to reception so that a member of staff can guide you through, answer any questions, and ensure everything is explained clearly.
Regarding your comments:
• Bedding paper – All puppies are provided with veterinary-approved bedding paper in line with our local authority licence requirements. This is refreshed throughout the day, but depending on the time of your visit, some paper may naturally be on the floor, particularly towards the end of the day.
• Underfloor heating & privacy areas – Every puppy pen has underfloor heating and a privacy screen, giving them a warm and secure space to sleep. Puppies will often be found huddled together resting, which is completely normal behaviour at certain times of the day.
• Staff presence – We are sorry nobody greeted you. There are always staff working around the premises, but if you did not check in at reception, it’s likely we were unaware that you had arrived.
• As stated on our website, we breed all of our puppies within the United Kingdom Northern Ireland, under full licence. Our transporter is DEFRA approved, and our processes are inspected by the professionals who issue our own licence. All puppies are vet health checked and then monitored by ourselves closely throughout the day to ensure their ongoing welfare.

We was mad to feel part of the family when we got there we was let take our dog round all the pens to see the puppies when we got to the cocapoos I took one out my dog dident like it and she dident like my dog so I put her back i got another one out and he was playing with my dog the gentleman asked if I would like to take him to the office so we did the dogs bonded and we had him
I would highly recommend this place for dogs i will go back even my vet commented on his breed

We bought our Suzie girl from Douglas hall, they were incredible. They advised us to have a full health check within 48hrs to put our minds at rest, all of which came back amazing. My niece sadly lost her puppy, due to negligence from the Kennels. Upon further investigation of the alleged 5 ⭐️ rated kennels, this business dropped it star rating by 4 ⭐️ for both breeding and sale of puppies by the local council (Pendle Borough Council) for the full year of 2024… this surely speaks volumes, and shows the rapid decline of star rating issued from a governing body!! Please see attached the star rated Animal Welfare certificates issued by Pendle Borough Council.

Thank you for your comment Michelle. We are aware that a number of 1-star reviews have been posted today following a single situation involving a family member. While we completely understand that emotions can run high after the loss of a puppy, many of the reviews being posted are from individuals who have never visited Douglas Hall Kennels, never purchased a puppy from us, and have had no direct experience with our business.
We feel it’s important to clarify the facts for anyone reading:
✅ We are fully licensed and regulated by Pendle Borough Council and operate in full compliance with all DEFRA Animal Welfare Regulations.
✅ Our star rating is set by local licensing officers, not by customers or online reviews.
✅ A change in star rating does not indicate a welfare issue — it can occur for administrative council policy changes, or that we do not Kennel Club register our puppies (due to our litters being bred to be pets only and not for breeding or show purposes etc).
✅ Our animals are cared for under strict welfare standards, with full veterinary oversight, appropriate socialisation, and transparent processes that all visitors can see for themselves.
Regarding the situation referred to:
The puppy in question did not become unwell while in our care. The issue developed later, after leaving us, and was unfortunately not treated in the necessary timeframe. Despite this, we still offered a refund, which the purchaser accepted. We again extend our sympathies for their loss — losing a puppy is heartbreaking for anyone.
We welcome anyone to visit our premises, meet our staff, meet our puppies, see our facilities, and view our licensing documents. Transparency is, and has always been, central to how we operate.
We will continue focusing on the care and welfare of our puppies and the support we provide to the many families who choose us.

Thank you for you lengthy yet repetitive response. I note that you have copied and pasted a lot of your response to me from other review responses. Unless you have this as a scripted response that send out to all your negative reviews.
Whilst I understand your response I am at a loss as to your comment around my opinion having never visiting your premises. Surely that’s what the whole review system is set up for to give your future customers an insight into how previous customers rate their experiences in using your services? I don’t need to visit as I have a family member who has had 1st hand experience with yourselves and her account in dealing with your business in the purchase of a puppy from your establishment. The sad fact in all of this is that the puppy in question has lost its life due to inadequate details and due diligence with documentation whilst also not being adequately vaccinated at the correct time and to add further inadequacies had contracted conjunctivitis upon sale.
Again I re-iterate your comment on the stars and I was talking about your license rating from a governing body and not a review site. Surely your comment about the registration of your animals with the Kennel Club is an excuse as you would never have been awarded a 5 ⭐️ rating in the first place without that and as for a change in councillors surely there are protocols that need to be met rather than an individual’s own decision in issuing rated licensing documents, unless something untoward was occurring in previous years issuing of licence to explain the high ratings!!!
As for your transparency at no point was a full refund offered or assistance with the excruciating amount you vet bills the poor little mite had to endure. I think your scripted response is an insult to my intelligence and then to add more insult to injury you thank your genuine customers for their continued support. If my niece is not a genuine customer and you want to disregard and ignore her 1st hand account in dealing with your establishment you clearly should not be in business.

1. Regarding your comment about “scripted responses.”
We are responding to a large number of reviews posted within a very short timeframe by individuals who were not involved in the purchase. Where the same incorrect claims are repeated, our responses naturally need to address the same points. This is not a script — it is simply correcting the same misinformation across multiple posts.
2. On reviewing a business you have not personally used.
Review platforms generally expect reviews to be based on first-hand experiences.
Your family member’s experience — which we responded to directly — is valid for her own review.
However, second-hand accounts, especially when serious allegations are being made, can be misleading to readers who believe they are reading genuine first-hand customer experiences.
3. The claim that the puppy died due to our “lack of care.”
This is not supported by the veterinary findings. The puppy was:
• healthy and vet-checked at the point of sale
• vaccinated by a licensed veterinary surgeon
• showing no clinical concerns when collected
• handled in accordance with DEFRA and council regulations
The condition that developed occurred after the puppy had left our care. We understand how upsetting that is, but attributing this to our kennels does not reflect the facts recorded by both veterinary professionals and the local authority.
4. Conjunctivitis on collection
No such issue was raised at the time of collection or during the 48-hour post-purchase period, which is when any health concerns should be reported so that we can support and advise.
Had we been made aware, we would have assisted immediately — as we do with all customers.
5. On licensing and star ratings
The star rating issued by local authorities is influenced by numerous administrative factors (building works, council policy changes). A temporary reduction does not indicate poor welfare, nor wrongdoing.
This has been clarified by Pendle Borough Council directly.
6. On refunds and support
A refund was issued — and accepted — by the purchaser.
This was done as a gesture of goodwill, even though the issue was determined to have arisen after the puppy left our premises. To state that “no refund was offered” is not accurate.
7. On whether your niece was a “genuine customer”
She was, and we have never claimed otherwise.
Our reference to “genuine customers” relates to the many reviews now being posted by people who have had no direct contact with us and are repeating incorrect claims. Her own experience was responded to in full and directly.

We truly are sorry for your family’s loss — that is not in dispute. What we cannot do is accept responsibility for circumstances that were not caused by our establishment, nor allow repeatedly inaccurate statements to go unaddressed.

My dog came from here and died as a pup because of there lack of care his vaccinations was wrong and he picked up an illness while in there care we did everything we could to get him healthy again but these dogs are mixed together and are all let out to play together with no vaccines or wrong vaccines in our case witch causes them to get these problems they are also taken away from there mothers way to young and are sold without there mothers even tho Lucy’s law clearly states they mother should be present when the dog is being sold
In 2024 they had a 1 star review for the whole year so it’s crazy how they have managed to get back up to 5 stars in such little time and there is clearly something not right

We are very sorry that your friend experienced the loss of their puppy — it is a deeply upsetting situation for any family. However, several of the statements made in this review are not accurate, and it is important that readers have the correct facts.
✅ The puppy did not become ill while in our care.
He left us healthy, vet-checked, and vaccinated. The condition developed later, after leaving our premises, which was confirmed by the attending vet. No illness was present at our kennels at that time.
✅ All vaccinations were correct, issued by a licensed veterinary surgeon.
✅ Puppies are not mixed together without vaccination protection.
We follow DEFRA’s Animal Welfare Regulations, which require strict separation of puppies by age group and vaccination status. This is checked during licensing inspections, and no concerns have ever been raised.
✅ Puppies are never taken from their mothers too early.
This would be illegal, unethical, and harmful, and we have absolutely no reason or benefit to do so. All puppies stay with their mothers for the correct period under veterinary oversight.
✅ Lucy’s Law is being misinterpreted here.
Lucy’s Law applies to third-party sellers (e.g., pet shops or resellers).
We are a licensed breeding establishment, meaning Lucy’s Law does not require the mother to be present at the point of sale. This is confirmed by DEFRA and by local councils nationwide.
✅ Regarding the 1-star council rating claim:
This is misleading.
Star ratings can change for many administrative reasons such as size of operation, staffing ratios, renewal timing, council policy updates, or facility upgrades. A change in star rating does not mean poor welfare.
We are now back to a top rating because we comply fully with DEFRA regulations, and our premises and procedures meet all required standards.
✅ We acted compassionately and responsibly.
Despite the issue arising after the puppy had left our care, we still provided a full refund, which the purchaser accepted.
We understand that many recent 1-star reviews are being posted by friends and relatives who have never visited us or purchased a puppy. While understandable as a gesture of support, this does not reflect genuine experience.
