I would say that this lamp is flimsier than I expected. The bottom pole was difficult to screw into the base - I was afraid of damaging the threads. My husband had to turn the base rather than the pole to get it in. The light seems a bit dimmer than I expected and yes there are several options. Fairly simple to turn on by touching the top of the light. It will probably serve my purposes to help me see my music, but I wish I had gone with a taller, more sturdy lamp.

Such a great light for my cross stitching. Heavy base, easy to assemble and discreet.
