I'll be honest, I was VERY nervous about having eye surgery and it took me several years to pluck up the courage but I'm so glad I did and I'm so glad I chose Custom Vision Clinic.
I had SMILE in one eye and LASIK in the other. From start to finish, from pre-op, to the surgery itself and all the follow up checks, the experience has been quite superb.
James and his team are SO professional, helpful and friendly and at every stage I felt like I was in the safest of hands.
My surgery was 12 months ago and now, at the age of 53, my vision is better than 20/20, having been a spectacles wearer since my mid-20's.
I honestly can't recommend these guys highly enough. Even if you're nervous, just come and speak to the team. Going ahead with the surgery was one of the best decisions I ever made.

Mr Ball combines a warm and reassuring manner with an impressively high level of care and attention to the procedure. Lots of information beforehand explaining what would be done and follow-ups to check on the healing process. I warmly recommend Custom Vision.

I had the Relex Smile procedure with Mr Ball just over a year ago.
The results were simply amazing, I can’t honestly remember ever being able to see so clearly and sharply. My vision the very next day after the procedure was better than 20/20 and after a few weeks of healing they were 20/10. A year down the line and they are still perfect.
The process from start to finish with the team was seamless along with the aftercare/ follow up appointments. The whole team are very professional and friendly.
I did a lot of research into laser eye surgery and had attended numerous other consultations with bigger chain company’s before and I was not confident for a variety of reasons. As soon as I went to custom vision clinic I was sold. If you’re contemplating private eye surgery, seriously don’t look anywhere else!

I found custom vision clinic (CVC) online when I decided to explore corrective eye surgery treatments. It was initially tough to differentiate between treatment providers online, however upon finding CVC, i was immediately impressed by their website, professional credentials and attitude to helping their patients.

From start to finish the whole process was 3 months. When I first visited the clinic, the staff were helpful, friendly and welcoming. The initial consultation discussed my treatment options and which were suitable for me. LASIK was deemed the most suitable to treat my shortsightedness and astigmatism. The next series of appointments checked and double checked all the measurements required to perform the surgery. I felt this was very thorough (as youd hope) and put me at ease on surgery day knowing that everything had been triple checked.

I had my treatment with Dr Jack Gormley, throughout the entire procedure he explained everything they were doing and gave me crystal clear direction on when to rest and when/where to look.

I honestly can’t recommend CVC enough. It’s now been a month since my surgery was performed and not having to wear my glasses to drive, read, play sport is just life changing! I’ve turned 30 this year and I wish I found CVC and had this done sooner.

A superb experience from start to finish for my cataract surgery. Excellent communication, professionalism and empathy from James, Gurpal, Angela, Logan, Clara and Jaqui and other team members. Pre-op instructions and guidance clear and post op care exemplary. The Operation itself was painless and the outcome perfect vision.

I initially contacted Custom Vision Clinic (CVC) on the independent recommendation of a family friend who is an ophthalmic consultant based in the north.
I had severe short sighted vision and astigmatism in both eyes (-7.5 D and -2.5 C) and had worn contact lenses for over 25 years. I was always told that laser eye surgery would not be possible due to the severity of my prescription, I therefore contacted CVC to enquire about implantable contact lenses. After testing all of the parameters of my eyes I was told implantable contacts were not feasible due to the narrowness of my anterior chamber, therefore the procedure had unnecessary risk that CVC (or I) would not be prepared to take. However, after reviewing my eyes in further detail was told I was suitable for Relex Smile laser eye surgery. After a short time contemplating and a follow meeting with Mr Ball to run through my various concerns and questions I decided to proceed with the surgery.
I had my surgery one month ago, the procedure itself was very quick and mildly uncomfortable for a very short period of time. Since then, I have been overwhelmed with the outcome so far. I now have 20/20 vision, there is a very slight haze that has reduced gradually since the procedure and I am told that it will take another few weeks to clear up completely - either way I am completely glasses and contact lens free which is incredible.
I am very grateful to Mr Ball and his team for their honesty and customer care.
I do regret not having visited CVC sooner, but hopefully others will find this review useful.

I recently had the ICL surgery by Dr James Ball at Custom Vision Clinic and had an amazing experience. The surgery has been life changing and the process of going through it was made much more comfortable for me by Dr Ball and his team. The level of care and service CVC gives is beyond amazing. They really go out of their way to make the experience less nerve racking and to ensure that you feel really well looked after. I cannot recommend Dr Ball and the Custom Vision Clinic team enough - I’m very glad I went for the surgery and I would highly recommend Custom Vision Clinic to anyone.

I feel so fortunate and thankful to have met and been treated by such an incredibly talented surgeon and his caring team. Extended focus lens replacement for each eye, one week apart, were recommended by James Ball as a solution for my prescription. What a revelation they have made to my life - from waking up in the morning to going to sleep at night being able to see - and I thought contact lenses were a miracle!!

Mr James Ball came highly recommended for lens replacement by several colleagues and friends. My initial assessment and consultation at the Custom Vision Clinic was extremely thorough and I felt very confident after my potential surgery had been discussed - so confident that I booked the procedures in while I was there. My right eye was done first, the left eye, the following week. The lens replacement was painless, quick and I received comprehensive and detailed after care information and prescription drops to apply. There was very little postoperative discomfort and by the evening, after each procedure, I could see clearly. The week after my procedures, I was amazed and delighted with results - apparently I have better than 20:20 vision!! It has actually transformed my life. I can’t recommend Mr Ball and his team highly enough

The correction surgery I had in December in one eye has given me back my independence and it's wonderful to be able to read again. Two subsequent appointments with the Optamologist has also been extremely helpful. I can't thank them enough!

I had my eyesight tested due to getting older.just occasionally having to pick a pair of spectacles up to read in low light conditions. I had smile laser eye surgery with Dr Jack Gormley. The whole process from start to finish I was so happy with. All the staff from all the the pre operation assessments I had were so helpful and went the extra mile for me to ensure I had the best experience possible and understood everything. On the operation day I felt fully prepared for it and knew the process as it was explained to me before and during by staff. Dr Jack Gormley explained everything and I felt so safe and confident in what was happening. All the staff on the day were so friendly and helpful. It was great having your surgeons number to contact if needed 24/7 incase of any questions or concerns. Recommend the custom vision clinic to anyone considering having laser eye surgery. I was a high myope with short sight of -7 and had worn glasses since I was 13. An inheritance enabled me to have the laser eye surgery I had dreamed of, and the great reviews for Custom Vision Clinic led me to the legend that is Mr James Ball. From the outset, he and his staff were kind and took time and trouble to discuss and explain everything, even taking me round the operating theatre beforehand so I knew what to expect, and giving me his number so I could always ask him if I needed help or advice following the surgery. I felt he saw me as a person, not a pound sign, and despite me being a little old for LASIK/SMILE, he said I was suitable for Presbyond SMILE and went ahead with it in March 2022. My near vision is amazing, I can read tiny print, and as the distance was a little less than perfect, Mr Ball did me a little extra LASIK in February 2023 all included in the aftercare, and my distance is now better than perfect. It's like a miracle. I can't thank Mr Ball and his team enough and I have recommended them to friends and family.
