COTECA online exam system is unreliable, misleading, and completely unacceptable

I am extremely disappointed with the way COTECA, the online testing provider for the CSCS/CITB exam, handled my situation. I paid over £300 for an online test that simply does not work, and the level of support I received was shocking.

A month ago, I contacted COTECA and clearly said that I no longer wanted to proceed with the online exam and that I wanted a refund. Nobody informed me that a refund was not possible, nobody helped me, and nobody even explained my options. They ignored my request until the test date arrived.

When I attempted the exam today, the COTECA system completely failed. After only 2–3 questions, the interface broke on my mobile device — buttons disappeared, the layout overlapped, and it became impossible to progress. This was clearly a technical fault on their side.

I contacted support, and instead of offering real help, they told me I must use a computer with a webcam. This requirement was never clearly stated during booking, and the test setup was described in a way that made it sound like a phone was acceptable.

So I paid £300 for:

• A system that doesn’t function properly
• Misleading instructions
• No help when the exam breaks
• No responsibility taken by COTECA
• Complete lack of transparency

This is unacceptable from a company that charges such a high price for an essential certification exam.

I am requesting a full refund or a free rebook immediately, because the failure was on COTECA’s side, not mine.
Nobody should have to pay hundreds of pounds for a service that simply doesn’t work.

It was my first time undertaking the cscs card and Dexter really supported me. Dexter always replied to my queries about the process and it was never too much trouble for him to choose the right courses for me and answer any questions I had. I did it without employer sponsorship which he understood and I always felt I was in good hands. I would recommend Coteca for these reasons and will definitely use their service again.
