Hi, I’m Colin. I’m an artist, a father, and husband. I work on multiple projects at once, each distinct but informing the others. I always show the means of production. The process, the fingerprints, the screwups. Essential Knowledge, my central project, is a series of instructional drawings I make to learn, retain information, and figure things out. They are for sharing obsessions, life lessons, jokes, and revealing too much. I run, How to Be an Artist if You Have a Life, a guided, live online class designed for artists who want to succeed creatively and thrive in their personal lives.

The course was great! I learned so much from Colin. Colin is helpful, informative, and creates a wonderful group atmosphere. Our cohort was lovely. I learned so much from this course and would strongly recommend it to anyone hoping to deepen and build their art practice and balance it with the demands of life.
The class was a great experience for two reasons. First the teacher was professional yet personable. He could calibrate his response to the artist who was showing artwork, yet it was always honest. The second benefit of the class were the other students' comments and portfolios. Everyone was excited to see other students creativity.
Colin led his Essential Knowledge workshop to me and a group of undergraduate scientists. We all really enjoyed themselves. The workshop got the students thinking about something new and creative and generated friendly discussion. By the end of the workshop, the students created a drawing that they were proud of. The workshop pushed the students (gently!) out of their comfort zone. Colin has a great personality that translates to great rapport and a comfortable environment. This workshop was highly effective at getting the audience to see that they ARE capable of creativity and they ARE capable of making art. I would highly recommend this workshop! This workshop also served as a great opportunity for team-building and brainstorming. I would recommend it for people of all ages, any/all profession, and at any skill level. Just bring your sense of fun and exploration!

I think of Colin as my art coach. This course, which is more that a course, but a community of artists developing our work together as a cohort, did so much to help me get organized for a big project I was planning. Colin, as the leader and coach of this team, helped me see things about my own process and practice which allowed me to cut away a lot of the unnecessary noise and distractions. Working together and sharing with other artists also helped me gain insight and sparked even more enthusiasm for getting stuff done in a mindful way. I can't say enough good things, so don't be surprised to see me again if you sign up too!
