CLVX1 user from nearly day one...

This is a proper review and as such describes my ongoing experience with Clevatura as company and their product.
First of all, I'm one of the Kickstarter supporters, so I was involved from early on. Secondly I'm an IT professional for almost 30 years now and as such very discerning in regards to my human interface hardware. I need keyboards and pointer devices that are comfortable working with for very long times. Before I pledged for the CLVX1, I had been using an original Sun Type 6 USB Unix keyboard with various trials on other hardware that never was comfortable enough for long typing sessions. The CLVX1 promised the same configurability as my trusty old keyboard in a modern outfit with the addition of an integrated touchpad. This made it ideal for my needs, especially with Linux.
The Kickstarter campaign was the best so far in terms of communication and ongoing support, with people genuinely helpful and taking advice from the community onboard and developing hardware for them or us, if you will.
The hardware itself is - at least for myself - robust enough to withstand the daily work. I have heard of a few issues from other users about detached keycaps or wonky cables, but I can't second that purely based on my experience. USB and Bluetooth had a few teething problems early on, but they appear to be mostly solved now. There is still the annoying fact that Android doesn't want to keep any USB devices paired, but that is a limitation of Android based on some weird Google bugs in their USB subsystem. It works fine with again - Linux and iOS.
Typing is comfortable, touch is smooth and I like the gestures, which I configured for KDE, IDEs and log dissectors. TouchOnKeys is still in beta, but I do hope for quick improvements and features like the promised reprogramming keys. Reprogramming the background leds is easy and necessary for the mac version, as white keys with lit up symbols make reading them in bright light nearly impossible.
In hindsight, I should have gotten my 2nd CLVX1, for work, in black too, but then I really like white...
I'm pretty sure I do not use all the features yet, but the fact that I got rid of my beginning RSI by swapping my company supplied keyboard for my 2nd CLVX1 speaks for itself.
Is it everything I could wish for in a keyboard? Probably not - it is not IP67 rated. Certain web comics require that. Is it the best keyboard? Maybe not for everyone, but it is for me. Can I get rid of my mouse? No, but that's because I have a much different workflow.

This is one of the most thorough reviews we've received. 30 years in IT and getting rid of beginning RSI by switching keyboards is the kind of feedback that matters most to the team. The KDE and IDE gesture configurations you're running sound like a solid setup.

On white key legibility in bright light: fair point. The RGB can be tuned per-key in the TouchOnKeys app if you haven't tried adjusting brightness/color for readability.

On Android USB: you're right, that's a Google-side limitation we can't work around yet. BT pairing is the reliable path on Android for now.

I love my Clevetura S

I love my Clevetura S! The keyboard does everything you'd want it to do-- multiple bluetooth channels and wired USB mode. Multi-zone RGB backlighting, and supports Bazzite Linux. The support staff for the keyboard are great- they've been super helpful and friendly. Highly recommend this brand to anyone. :)

Owner of both CLVX-1 and CLVX-S

I've use both the original CLVX-1 (what I'm currently typing on now) and the CLVX-S

The products are great and exactly what you'd expect from a keyboard with a trackpad built under the keys.

The support for these have been great resolving hardware, firmware, and software issues as they come up with a direct line of communication via their Discord community

Since launch they've added official support for MacOS and now Linux due to community feed back even making Mac versions of the keyboards with the appropriate layouts

It makes so much sense

Really innovative tech that goes great with the kind of stuff I work with - DAW, NLE, IDE*, that is, music, video and code. Being a heavy keyboard user I've long preferred having a Macbook with touch right in front of the keyboard rather than to the side, for when I actually do need to use the pointer, and this is the closest I've gotten to that in a desktop form factor.

And with Karabiner and Hammerspoon you get basically all the hackability of a mechanical right in software. There is a hiccup here currently, Fn as Hyper isn't yet possible as nothing is posted on key down, but they've told me they're working on it. Everything else - caps as ctrl/esc etc - is working 100%!

Touch is not quite as smooth as the built in trackpad, but not bad at all, and I'm coming to dig it more and more after a bit of learning curve.

Software is decent - bundle size is insane though - and the team seems responsive enough and eager to keep developing the product. Hoping for a basic API then sky's the limit!
I have great hopes that I'll have to revise this review to 5/5 soon enough.

*Well, Neovim.

Thank you for this. The DAW/NLE/IDE use case is exactly where the touch gestures add the most value, and it's good to hear Karabiner and Hammerspoon are working well over Bluetooth.

On Fn-as-Hyper: the team is actively working on posting key events on key down. It's a firmware-level change and on the roadmap. On the API: noted, and we've heard this from other power users too. Can't commit to a timeline yet but it's in the discussion.

Touch precision improves with macOS driver 2.2 (in the latest TouchOnKeys update if you haven't grabbed it yet). Worth checking if you're still on an earlier version.

The first piece of tech that feels magical in a long time

I've had both versions of their most recent keyboards (CLVX-1 and CLVX-S) for a little over a year now, and my only complaint is that I'm too addicted to quit.

Often times at work I slide my fingers over my keys on my regular keyboard out of habit. Being mouseless at home just feels magical in a way no piece of tech has felt in many years.

Clicking with my thumbs also became very convenient, and neither dragging nor highlighting felt unnatural after a couple of hours with them. I've even edited movies and 3-d prints quite easily. I don't type very fast (around 72 WPM average on monkeytype), but I've had no issues with the flat keys too.

A plus is that I had to import both all the way to Brazil, which can be cumbersome, but I've had no issues whatsoever in both instances.

Hi Felipe, thank you for sharing your experience. A year with both keyboards and importing them all the way to Brazil, that says a lot. The muscle memory thing you mentioned (sliding fingers on other keyboards out of habit) is something we hear from long-term users. Glad the flat keys and thumb clicking worked out for you too.

Unfortunately it’s not productive

I use this keyboard on my iPad Air M4 and touch gestures often misfire, possibly due to an inaccurate sensor. The touch feel is also uncomfortable, mainly because of the bumps on the keys. It’s particularly annoying when it recognises finger movement as a touch input while I’m searching for the F and J keys without looking at the keyboard. While I appreciate the fancy design and feel good about owning it, it’s not as productive or comfortable as I had hoped.

Torn feelings

I'm torn. I have the CLVX S. The built quality is exceptional and the typing experience is out of this world. There's no way that I will go back to another external keyboard. Only the professional Lenovo laptop keyboard are a tad better.
I was not so keen on the light effects but they are cute.
The main reason I bought it was the touchpad features and yeah they work but I'm still struggling with them especially double tap, right tap etc
Too easy to touch a key
Is it worth the price? Not sure.
Would I have bought it when I had the experience before? Not sure.
Do I regret the purchase? No

Hi, thanks for the detailed feedback. Good news: firmware 6.3.0 introduced Touch Only mode, where the touchpad keeps working even when keys are pressed, so accidental key touches no longer interrupt your gestures. You can also click by pressing a key in this mode. If you haven't updated yet, connect via USB and the TouchOnKeys app will offer the update. We also improved the backlighting and quite a few other things in this release. Full list here: https://clevetura.com/release-notes/

Hi Al, try adjusting the touchpad/trackpad sensitivity in your system settings, not the mouse sensitivity. The keyboard registers as a trackpad, so that's where the sensitivity control lives. Should give you the fine-tuning you need.

I have forgotten how to use a mouse.

I have forgotten how to use a mouse. It sits on my desk collecting dust.

That is how good this CLVX S is.

There is a bit of muscle memory training on my end to familarize with the key locations on the keyboard but once I had it down, my workflow efficiency has greatly increased.

I travel a lot for work and often work at coffee shops. So this keyboard + trackpad combo has provided me the portability and convenience that a workhorse nomad demands.

My only issue is battery life and its something Clevetura has shared before I purchased. The battery life is short if you have the backlight LEDs on during use.

Otherwise, I HIGHLY recommend this product.

Thanks for the recommendation.

The S stands for Superb

My use case for CLVX S is primary a "living-room" style keyboard. Believe it or not, but at the time of writing it was the only wireless keyboard/touchpad combo with both backlight (and RGB at that!) as well as Windows Precision drivers support. The latter mattered most to me. The TouchOnKeys idea is a great one - package is very compact, yet the touchpad area is huge!
The only caveat I have with it (therefore 4*) is that the standby battery life is pretty poor. What I mean is that leaving the keyboard on, results in the battery draining in a matter of a day. What I believe are the reasons, are:
1) The TouchOnKeys LED is always on (the backlight as a whole turns off after a while, aside from this one).
2) The keyboard never disconnects from Bluetooth. Coming from K830, it did in fact disconnect after an hour or so, and would reconnect after clicking any key - and it would last weeks on standby.
The above experience was on firmware 6.2.2. I hope it gets improved in future updates. Nevertheless, it's still by far the best such product I had the pleasure using.

EDIT: Can confirm the issues have been addressed in 6.3.0 firmware update. Also, the bluetooth connects much quicker now too. Nice!

Clevetura CLVX1 is a wonderful keyboard…

Clevetura CLVX1 is a wonderful keyboard with an innovative touchpad over the center keys. I use it exclusively to operate my home theater PC, and it replaced my decade-old Logitech K830. My seating position is located 20 feet away from HTPC and I connected the Clevetura keyboard's USB-C cable to a 24 foot USB-3 extension cable from my PC. It is always plugged in and I never tried the Bluetooth function. It is a bit smaller compared to the K830 with a much higher quality build and the keys are beautifully backlit with adjustable colors. I only wish the backspace button was larger, but it's easy to get used to after a while.

The future of peripheral tech, needs programming specific form factor.

The one touch keys technology is absolutely game changing. No more bringing a mouse and keyboard. Best of both worlds. The most compact setup possible. The future is bright, with wearable displays and mini computers. I think how we use a computer is about to change.
That said, I am a software engineer and I would like a version of this keyboard that is split and optimized for programming and RSI. I've been using the cvlx s for an extended time for embedded software development and my rsi is coming back...

Everything I hoped for, and more.

I was looking for a wireless keyboard and mouse that could used across multiple devices to reduce desk clutter and cables. I am thoroughly impressed.

Build quality is very good, the technology is really well thought out. The setup on two Windows machines and an Android tablet was almost instantaneous and I found switching between devices to be very quick and super easy.

I have learned now to use the type button to jump back and forth between typing and touchpad use, I make fewer mistakes that way. About the only thing that I use a mouse for now is AutoCAD, I don't find the touchpad as efficient for drawing.

My only negative was the price, it feels like a lot of money for a keyboard. But when you get it in your hands you feel like you got something for your money, it is not a cheap piece of plastic.

Amazing!!!

First off, I would like to say this thing is amazing, well done!!!!! 🤩

Design:
Excellent/Apple Quality build, keys are just big enough to eliminate mistypes and well spaced, soft key press, and decent battery.

Pros:

Apple Build quality

Great Key feel/feedback/size

RGB lighting customization

Cons: The battery life could improve.

Software:
LOVE THE LIGHT SHOW WHEN FIRST OPENING THE PACKAGE!!!! Has everything you need to fully customize to your liking. You have the abilities to adjust the color of the keys and the features of each one. Also you can modify the gestures for each OS and set profiles for them as well. Switching between devices is a little slow to connect but not to bad, Track pad work as attended, but not perfect all the time with the gestures and movement, sometimes it won’t read the gesture on the first try or when moving the mouse, but I’m sure it will improve over time. The physical mouse buttons at the bottom is okay, and nice I guess to have when touch doesn’t want to read, but wish they weren’t there and the keyboard was evenly proportion at the top and bottom, also making the keyboard a little smaller. Bluetooth support for TouchApp was my only issues, which was addressed in the last update and added. Only thing I can think of that would be nice to have is an iOS/Android TouchApp support.

Pros:
Supports all OS/ TouchApp support for customization and future support/feature updates.

AI Support for improve typing/use

Supports 3 Bluetooths and one Wired

Nice customization options and features.

Software is well designed and easy to use
Future updates/support

Cons:

Not a fan of the physical mouse buttons at the bottom.

Gestures not supported on wired connection on iOS.

Mouse/Track pad doesn’t always read gestures or mouse movement.

Switching between devices is a little slow.

Overall: 8/10

There’s rooms for improvements, as there is in all products. For a first Gen product, this is pretty dare close to perfect for most user. Build quality is excellent and the software is on
