Could have been better
We rented a Honda Civic hybrid for one week in Bulgaria, from Sofia airport.
The check in process left a mixed impression. On the positive side - we arrived on a late hour and the agent waited with the car at the terminal, though we had to squeeze in 5+ driver ti drive into their office. The fact we received a brand new car made the agent warn ne a few times against leaving any damage in the car. I almost wanted to ask for an older car as he was very aggressive about this and it felt unpleasant.
The car indeed was amazing and I've made all effort to keep it in tact.
The check out process also was so so. Due to dusty weather the car was dirty and the agent couldn't verify that all is 100%. After 24 hours I received an Email informing me that I was charged 200 euros for a scratch that was found after the carwash. Since I had an external insurance from rentalcover I dud not argue but I felt that this was not totally fair.
Paling extra for bringing car back early
We hired a car at preveza airport greece. When i brought it back 6.45 and i had to bring it back at 7.30 the man told me that if i wanna leave it now it cost me 26euro cash. I didn't wanna wait there till 7.30 so i paid but find it very strange.

Excellente expérience a l'agence de l'aéroport de Kalamata. Très bonne organisation pour la navette aéroport, personnel très sympathique, voiture en parfait état. Bravo !
Incompréhensible
Apres un souci sur mon vol, j'ai gentillement demandé a récupérer le véhicule le lendemain sans être rembourser ou autres sur le jour où je n'ai pas recuperer le vehicule mais a priori le loueur avec qui j'ai discuter a préféré annuler la réservation et donc perdre un client, sachez que cette employer vous a fait perdre 700 euros car j'ai annuler et trouver une autres réservation chez sixt a hurghada.

Fuyez l'agence de Corfou. L'agence est en dehors de l'aéroport. Personne n'était là pour nous accueillir. Nous avons dû les appeler.
Nous avons dû payer un supplément car nous sommes arrivés vers minuit.
La voiture n'était pas très propre, beaucoup de rayures, la vitre passager ne fonctionnait pas, ni le port usb, un siège était déchiré et il n'y avait pas de plage arrière. On a rendu la voiture plus propre qu'au départ. On nous a accusé à tort d'une rayure (cachée avant par la poussière) et nous avons dû payer 380 euros. La prise en charge a été longue.
Cette agence est une arnaque.
Non payment of card deposit
We hired a car from Auto Union at Kalamata, Greece in July 2025, and have done so for the last couple of years. Normally ok and the car on the latest occasion was fine, staff friendly - hence the two stars. Our problem this time stems from the refund of our deposit which they have held on to for over a month. This has in the past been returned within a week, but this length of time is unacceptable for a car which was returned in perfect condition with a full tank. It was signed off with no problem. I am now going to have to open a case with my card company.

1. Arrivo: prenotazione ore 15:00 con il pick up all aereoporto; ci hanno trasferiti solo alle 15:45, dato che vengono con una piccola auto a 5 posti, per cui devono fare una serie di viaggi per portare tutte le persone che hanno prenotato le auto
2. Ritiro auto: una volta trasferiti alla auto Union di Skiathos, ulteriore attesa di 45 minuti per predisporre i documenti e il ritiro dell'auto
3. Auto: inguardabile, vecchia sporca, con una infinità di km. Preso per stanchezza, l ho presa così com era.

Rented a ford focus estate or similar from Zakynthos airport. Given a citroen berlingo, basically a delivery van. So many bumps scratches and dents the entire diagram was full of crosses. Took car back, they couldn't get me on condition of exterior, tried to claim i should have returned with full tank, but my contract said half tank, so they couldn't get me on that (they said the guy handing over hadn't indicated half tank on pick up/drop off on their paper work, but was clear on mine..), so they got me on the interior state of car..said needed deep clean hygeine. Eur86. Because of a sweat stain on one seat. Absolute scam. The car was probably better when i dropped it off than when i picked it up. I told people in the office who were picking up cars to make sure you take pictures of interior as well when you collect car. Then an employee started shouting at me 'you were told to take pictures of interior'...i wasn't. Obviously i would have done had i been told to. They were desperate to get me on something. Absolutely pathetic.

Auto gehuurd via sunnycars voor op lefkas deze werkt met auto union samen. Ik heb nog nooit van mijn leven zo'n onbeschofte en bijzonder slecht engels sprekende onbeschofte persoon meegemaakt als die gast die voor auto union op lefkas werkt. Hij was zelfs zo onbeschofte dat zijn landgenoot en waarschijnlijk eiland genoot zich kapot schaamde voor dit onbeschofte persoon. Mijn vrouw was gewoon bang en heeft voor de zekerheid maar een filmpje gemaakt van dit onbeschofte persoon. Voor ons nooit geen auto union meer.
Terrible vehicles
Don't let them give you a silver Opel Astra at Warsaw Airport!! The actual pickup etc went very smoothly. However, when driving out of the car park I noticed the orange engine management light was on. I stopped and told the young lady who handed me the car. She said to ignore the light as it is a factory fault and the car was fine to drive. 10 minutes into the journey I was having real problems getting the car into gear and the clutch was very "sticky". I decided that I would drop my wife and 2 young daughters off at the hotel then go back to swap the car as it really wasn't performing.
However, I got to traffic lights, I was in the middle of 3 lanes of traffic. The car began to shake violently. The car would not go into gear and then completely cut out. I tried the engine 3 or 4 times but when it did start I could not force it into gear. Having 2 young kids in the car they became quite scared as we were sitting ducks.
We called the emergency number, got out the car and removed all our luggage and waited for help. It took almost 2 hours for the replacement car to arrive with lots of apologies.
I have since sent them an email to say how upsetting the whole experience was. However, the reply didn't even contain an apology. They actually told me that there was nothing wrong with the car and they hired it out to another customer. Can you believe that??? I hope the next customer isn't in the fast lane of the motorway when it breaksdown again, they might not be so lucky!! They're playing with lives!!
Nur mit zusätzlicher Versicherung
Das Fahrzeug wurde im April über die Fluggesellschaft gebucht und mit der Kreditkarte bezahlt. Vor Ort mussten wir die Kaution hinterlegen und die Kreditkarte war nur 5 statt wie im Kleingedruckten auf der Seite 3 hingewiesen 6 Monate gültig. Alle anderen Möglichkeiten wurden abgelehnt und uns wurden 560.- Euro für eine Zusatzversicherung aufgezwungen. Nie wurde darauf hingewiesen was eher Täuschung und Geschäftsmodell ist. Man muss auch vor Ort nochmals ein Papier ausfüllen, dieses dient eher für die Provisionbeweis der abgezockten Touristen. Auf dem Zusatzvertrag der Versicherung war bereits alles vorausgefüllt, sie wussten schon das es hier was zu holen gab. Ganz miese masche von der Swiss unterstützten Carunion

Auto Union Greece (Preveza Airport)- would definitely use again. We were told to expect someone waiting with a sign on arrival - we couldn't find him for 10 mins which sent alarm bells ringing, however on calling the office they said to walk across the road and minibus would be waiting for us, which it was. This was the only negative experience we had. The transfer to their office is 1 min away. Our car was ready and waiting , we checked over and completed paperwork and all was fine. Drop off was quick and easy. They had minibus waiting to transfer us back.
I would stay clear of AutoUnion
I would stay clear of AutoUnion - Bergamo airport. The staff was rude and they have terrible communication within the company. We changed the name of the main driver long before we arrived (through a broker who notified AutoUnion). The headquarter, or what we should call it, never changed this in their papers, leading to us not getting the car we had already paid for. No one was able to reach the office, and the staff at the car-providet desk didn’t really do anything to help here and were just rude. I sat on the phone trying to reach the «headquarter» for AutoUnion for hours without anyone picking up the phone. Terrible experience overall and wouldn’t recommend this company to anyone.

Warning: Avoid AutoUnion Thessaloniki – Hidden Damage, Lies, and Forced Charges
We had a terrible experience with AutoUnion Thessaloniki and feel compelled to warn others.
When we picked up the car, we were only given the spare key—no remote. This meant we had to unlock the car manually every time, which already seemed odd. On the first evening, the door lock was stiff and difficult. A few days later, the lock stopped working entirely.
When we contacted AutoUnion, they refused to help and instead blamed us—claiming we had caused the damage—and demanded we pay for repairs. We then went to a local garage, where a certified mechanic confirmed the lock had been worn down over time, likely from overuse of the spare key. It was clear the issue was not caused by us.
AutoUnion then claimed the car was only a year old. This was a lie—we later found the registration papers, which clearly showed the car was first registered in 2022.
This entire situation felt like a scam:
✔️ Give customers a car with pre-existing mechanical wear
✔️ Blame them when it fails
✔️ Demand unjust compensation (500 euro)
✔️ Lie about the age of the vehicle to cover it up
It’s clear this company is not interested in honest business. They offer cheaper rentals up front but seem to make money by charging customers for worn-out parts they didn’t damage.
Do not rent from AutoUnion Thessaloniki. They are dishonest, unhelpful, and quick to exploit their customers. Don’t be a part of their scam business.
We waited over one hour for the shuttle.
Nice people they work from their heart
This is my second time renting from AutoUnion, and once again, the experience was excellent. All the staff are very nice and extremely helpful. Because they remembered me from my previous reservation, they didn’t charge me extra or block any deposit, which I appreciated. They truly care about their customers — they even drop people off at the train station and give tips to help save money. It was very touching to see how much they go out of their way to help. An amazing place to rent a car with top-notch service!

I am writing to formally file a complaint regarding a highly disappointing and distressing experience I had with your car rental service during my recent trip to Rome, Italy.
Upon our arrival at your rental office in Rome, we were informed that the small car we had reserved was not available. Instead, we were offered a different vehicle but only on the condition that we pay an additional €360. After a long and exhausting flight, we felt we had no real choice but to accept the offer — however, the entire interaction felt like a manipulative and unfair negotiation.
More disturbingly, we were met with sneering remarks and what appeared to be discriminatory behavior from your staff, possibly due to our nationality (Israeli). Their attitude was one of complete indifference and disrespect.
The employee filmed the vehicle upon handover, yet when we returned the car a week later, we were accused of causing a scratch on the wheel — something we strongly deny responsibility for. When we requested to review the initial video, we were denied access. Furthermore, the return form had been signed in my name without my presence or consent.
This entire experience was not only unpleasant, but it felt hostile and dishonest. I have rented cars worldwide — this year alone I have spent 153 days abroad — and I have never encountered such mistreatment.
Additionally, we were forced to pay another €300 under the claim that we had not upgraded to maximum insurance coverage, which we were never properly informed about.
I am reaching out to you in good faith before taking further action, including public disclosure via social media. This is not a threat, but a genuine concern aimed at exposing and preventing fraudulent practices and customer exploitation.
I trust you will take this complaint seriously and look into the matter thoroughly.
