Ich stehe noch am Anfang des Ganzen Prozesses und kann bis jetzt nur die bisher erfolgte Kommunikation und das Erstgespräch beurteilen.
Die Kommunikation per Email und telefonisch klappte sehr gut und war durchwegs positiv. Das nun erfolgte Erstgespräch war eigentlich auf 20 min. festgelegt. Jedoch war es dann doppelt so lange. Es wurde alles gut erklärt und alle meine Fragen wurden kompetent beantwortet. Kurze Gesprächszusammenfassung und Angebot wurden im Anschluss sehr schnell per Email übermittelt. Ich melde mich dann mit einem weiteren Erfahrungsbericht, wenn es Neues bei mir gibt.

Selling tax preparation services seems to be the main objective
I contacted Americans Overseas for a specific question/topic. I had a call with someone which was informational, but I feel that the only objective or interest was to sell me tax preparation services. While this can be useful for some, and maybe even for me this wasn’t the reason I engaged.

Americans Overseas useless
Americans Overseas can offer boilerplate answers - that anyone can also find on the IRS website, for example - but consistently refuse to answer any other questions. That is, they send e-mails but sidestep the questions and offer something the enquirer doesn't need. Not at all helpful, just adding to the stress and annoyance in the world.
And, because I wrote this review, they cancelled an appointment to provide the advice they promise. So, they are vengeful, too! And they then broke the data protection laws and wrote to me about this review. You can below they accuse me (falsely) of using a false name. Hmmm, how does one assess if a name is false in an anonymous review?
They state on their website "We help all Americans overseas with their US tax liability.", but, as you see from their answer, this is not actually part of their plan: not ALL Americans overseas are helped nor do they even attempt to give any help such as where else one might find the required information, etc. So, they are practising false advertising as well as repeatedly contravening European law about data protection.
Stay far away from them. not only are they not helpful, but they are unpleasant, unprofessional, not acting in accordance with the law, and self-righteous.

At Americans Overseas, our role is to assist clients with the preparation and coordination of their U.S. tax filing process. However, we are not licensed tax accountants, and for legal and compliance reasons we are neither able nor permitted to provide individualized tax advice or answer complex tax-specific questions in the way a CPA or tax attorney would.
To ensure our clients receive qualified professional support where needed, we work with a network of accredited tax accountants across the United States who can assist with more specialized tax matters and individual tax advice.
We are truly shocked by this review, as we place such a high priority on customer satisfaction, and this organization was founded specifically to help people connect with the right experts.
We would genuinely like the opportunity to better understand your concerns and see whether we can help clarify the situation. For reasons that are unclear to us, you submitted a review under a fake name (Kunde 1) and have now edited your review six times to include baseless accusations.
Since we don’t know who you are, we can’t figure out why an intake was canceled. We usually do this if we see in advance that our advice won’t be helpful to you; it would be a waste of your time.
To conclude, we will focus our time on clients who do value our expertise and time. I wish you the best of luck in finding the answers to your questions.

advice on tax issues
The advice provided on tax issues was not prepared well. My current situation, i.e. retirement in 3 years, was not taken into consideration. The fee of USD 200 was too much for the information I received.

Onvoldoende transparantie over kosten en geen passende afhandeling
De ondersteuning bij Americans Overseas begon aanvankelijk goed. De intake was prettig en de eerste communicatie gaf vertrouwen, zeker omdat het Amerikaanse belastingstelsel complex is en specialistische kennis vereist.
Tijdens het traject zijn echter aanvullende werkzaamheden uitgevoerd waarvoor substantiële extra kosten in rekening zijn gebracht. Deze kosten kwamen zonder duidelijke kostencommunicatie en zonder expliciet akkoord, waardoor het totaalbedrag uiteindelijk bijna is verdubbeld ten opzichte van de oorspronkelijke offerte.
Toen ik dit punt aankaartte, werd de discussie steeds verlegd naar de complexiteit van de werkzaamheden en de inhoud van mijn dossier. Dat is echter niet het kernprobleem. Waar het om ging, is dat ik als consument vooraf duidelijk geïnformeerd had moeten worden over extra kosten en daar expliciet mee had moeten instemmen. Naar mijn oordeel is dit niet in lijn met de verplichtingen die gelden bij dienstverlening aan consumenten.
Wat ik het meest teleurstellend vind, is dat Americans Overseas wel erkent dat de communicatie hierover onvoldoende duidelijk is geweest, maar vervolgens geen enkele verantwoordelijkheid neemt, geen fout erkent en geen enkele vorm van tegemoetkoming biedt. De verantwoordelijkheid werd consequent bij mij als klant gelegd, juist op punten waarvoor je als leek hun professionele expertise inschakelt, en waarvoor je betaalt.
Hoewel de inhoudelijke dienstverlening op zichzelf zorgvuldig kan zijn, ervaar ik dit traject als ontransparant en risicovol vanwege de mogelijkheid van hoge, onverwachte kosten zonder voorafgaand akkoord. Om die reden kan ik Americans Overseas niet aanbevelen, met name niet aan mensen die nieuw zijn in het Amerikaanse belastingstelsel en vertrouwen op duidelijke begeleiding en transparantie.

Geachte mevrouw Trip, dank voor het delen van uw ervaring. Het spijt mij dat u het traject op deze manier heeft ervaren.
Ik wil wel graag verduidelijken dat de aanvullende werkzaamheden in uw dossier zijn ontstaan doordat relevante informatie over PFIC-gerelateerde transacties pas later in het traject beschikbaar kwam.
De werkzaamheden zijn uitgevoerd om uw Amerikaanse belastingaangifte correct af te ronden en in te dienen.
Dat neemt niet weg dat ik begrijp dat u de communicatie rondom de bijkomende kosten als onvoldoende duidelijk heeft ervaren. Dat signaal neem ik serieus en gebruiken wij om onze communicatieprocessen verder te verbeteren.
