We recently used Alfred Newton for our move. Both the sale of our property and the purchase of our new property. We used Holly Penman at their Romiley branch.

While our initial contact with them was pleasant we found the process overly tiring and stressful. We had to continually chase them for answers to questions that we had raised. We often found that there was delay in raising these questions with our vendors

The communication with Holly wasn’t great. We found Helen to be a bit rude and direct. But Holly herself was very pleasent to deal with.

Ultimately the process was delayed because of an oversight on our application with my wife’s middle names. The mortgage lender was very surprised that this wasn’t picked up by the solicitors earlier.

Also on the day of exchange it was very difficult to contact Holly, often on an 90 mins lunch break. Exchange happened late Friday afternoon, completion the following Monday. There was no confirmation email or conversation with Holly when the exchange happened. We felt very much they didn’t want to deal with us personally

The completion day ran very smoothly.

We also found out 2 months after we moved that they had failed to pay us £100 which was agreed by our buyers for the purchase of some wardrobes.

Overall well felt Alfred Newton could have done better. We would not recommend and would not use again

The communication throughout was excellent. Our queries always had replies within 24-48 hours of asking. Neave always did her best best to help with any enquirie, Helen explained things in an appropriate way helping our understanding. Holly was very thorough with her work, all reports were clear and concise. All of which made the experience (all-be-it long in our circumstance, not alfred newtons fault) very easy and comfortable.
