Great Contracts Packaged Badly
AIA Contract Documents are an extremely valuable professional resource. But since AIA’s intellectual property was licensed to an outside entity the expense of using the documents has increased dramatically while IMO the value of the service has declined.
The current subscription model and digital interface are expensive and a bit Kafkaesque, seemingly designed to extract maximum expenditure from customers while requiring minimal investment in the user experience. What was once a relatively straightforward resource is now cumbersome, frustrating, and disproportionately costly to use. Contractors and owners have an especially difficult time with it.
Perhaps this is simply business. But it is particularly disappointing because AIA Contracts used to feel like a resource provided by the AIA for the benefit of the profession. The underlying documents remain valuable but the increasingly expensive commercial apparatus surrounding access to them does not.
Most frustratingly, I have seen very little discernible added value to justify the substantial increase in cost and complexity.
EDIT: Had to downgrade to one star due to the fact that their customer service line still (for years) auto-hangs-up on all single use technical support calls and has a voicemail saying that the customer service is closed during all business hours.
Also immediately after writing this review I was called over and over by a sales rep attempting to land an annual subscription.

They were able to enter every field and carry it through to the draft as expected, so we have not been able to reproduce what you are seeing. That tells us something specific to your workflow or setup is getting in the way, and we want to find it.
We do not have a support ticket from you on file, so we have nothing to troubleshoot from yet. Please open one at help.aiacontracts.com and include what you are setting up, the steps you take, what the screen shows, and a screenshot if you can. That gives our team enough to reproduce the issue and either fix it or show you a faster path.

Solid product, great support
I've used AIA Contract Documents for design and construction agreements for over a decade. The forms are well-recognized in the industry and easily customizable to fit project needs. The platform makes it easy to generate and finalize documents, which allows for streamlined contracting processes.
AIA also provides prompt and effective customer service. When program updates impacted workflows, the AIA team was quick to engage, receptive to our concerns, and proactive about ensuring continuity while issues were resolved. They're easy to reach and consistently prompt in their responses.

Contracts are fine; Software Sucks
The contracts are well written. The Platform for editing them is TERRIBLE. Can't tell you how many times I've had to redo contracts because of how buggy their software is. If you have other options, explore those first.

I very much like and appreciate ACD5
I very much like and appreciate being able to use the ACD5 platform. I do NOT like the Catina platform. When we were forced to use it, I found it to be very user unfriendly, difficult and cumbersome. I will not be a subscriber if we are ever forced to use the Catina platform again.
The only thing I totally don't like about ACD5 is the "Period To" and "Date" fields being automatically populated when creating G702-1992 Application and Certificate for Payment. I find it difficult to get around the automatically populated dates and insert the correct dates. What would be really helpful is the system being able to remember the "My Commission expires:" date. It's quite cumbersome to get to the correct date for this field. Otherwise, I love ACD5.

Excellent Support
The support that ACD provides is excellent. That is important for Architects, especially for the smaller firms who do not have inhouse personnel who have the experience in writing contracts.

The AIA Contract Documents are the trusted standard
The AIA Contract Documents have existed since the late 1800's and are the established and recognized standard for the construction industry with decades of case law to support them.
