"Note: The transaction completed in January 2024, but this is an ongoing experience as the firm still refuses to return my documents as of today, April 2026.

"I am posting this as a final resort. Ackroyd Legal is currently in possession of my original identity documents (Passport/Driving License) from my transaction at 14 Fairfax Court, PE19 2JF and has failed to return them despite my requests. Under SRA Code of Conduct Rule 8.1, they have no right to withhold my personal property.

As a vulnerable client who has been through a difficult period, including hospitalization, I have found their lack of communication and refusal to return my identification completely unacceptable. I have now been forced to issue a formal Subject Access Request (SAR) to access my own files and have notified the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) of their conduct. I will not be updating this review until my original documents are safely returned to me and my data request is fulfilled."

I had an extremely disappointing experience with Ackroyd Legal, who were appointed by LSM. This is the second time I have had a poor experience with this firm, which makes it even more concerning.

The service was consistently unprofessional, careless, and at times shockingly incompetent. I was repeatedly given incorrect and misleading information. Each time I called to follow up, I was given different answers, which only added to the confusion and lack of confidence.

They also failed to switch the mortgage product on the agreed date and did not inform me of the delay. I only discovered this after chasing them myself more than two weeks later. This lack of communication and accountability caused unnecessary delays in transferring my mortgage product from Skipton to Leeds. As a direct result of their errors, I ended up paying additional interest, which should never have happened.

Communication throughout was poor. Responses were irregular and often came at odd hours, sometimes around 3am, raising serious concerns about whether my case was being handled by staff outside the UK who may not be fully familiar with UK legal requirements.

At no point did I feel confident that my case was being managed properly. The entire experience was frustrating, stressful, and entirely avoidable.

Based on my experience, I would strongly advise others to think twice before using this firm. The level of service falls well below what any client should reasonably expect.

They were involved in the sale of our flat. Their refusal to communicate and repeated delays nearly crashed the entire sale.

They won't speak to you on the phone. Take weeks to answer any email. And give complete misinformation.

Avoid at all costs. Cowboy company.

Very poor communication by the lawyer who asked me to complete the house sale form which I did. I asked to review with him but he sent it to buyers solicitor without acknowledging or reviewing the documents. Needless to say a lot of problems ensued. Lawyer from buyer asked questions which were not relayed, documents not shared. Sale fell through in the end with no acknowledgement of this from the lawyer. Been chasing this firm for a refund for over a month now ( fell through in October 2025) but no word on this. I've been put on hold , passed to several people, told to write an email to someone who never responded. It's a terrible experience, the worst I've ever had.

Poor service during house purchase. Did not care about me (the paying buyer). More concerned with pushing the deal through with my estate agent and communicating sensitive information to them without my consent. Also overcharged me on final completion statement and did not refund me.

Samantha was very efficient and responsive throughout the process. Most of all, she was patient and understanding.

After an incredibly long, stressful, and exhausting journey, Ackroyd Legal became the light at the end of what felt like an endless tunnel. And at the heart of that light was my solicitor, Leanne Wilson.

When PM Law closed so abruptly, I felt completely lost and overwhelmed. Leanne stepped in and picked up the pieces of our house sale with such compassion and determination. In just two months, she accomplished what PM Law had struggled with since September, something I had started to lose hope over.

I truly cannot put into words how grateful I am to Leanne. She has been patient, caring, and unbelievably dedicated. She responded to my frantic emails at all hours, offered reassurance when I needed it most, and always made time to take my calls, no matter how worried or stressed I was.

I am sincerely grateful for everything Leanne has done to finally bring this matter to a close. Her kindness and professionalism made an incredibly difficult period so much easier to bear.

I would recommend Ackroyd Legal wholeheartedly. And if you have the chance to work with Leanne, please do. You will not be disappointed.

Would give nil stars if possible, do not use, Kumaran Moorthy, he advised the whole chain that he had requested funds from a lender to exchange and complete contracts on the same day, this was untrue as he hadn't even sent the form in so the move fell through the working day before completion. He spent 2 months not answering calls or E Mails and generally delaying the proceedings in everyway he could.

We are having an awful experience with this law firm. The completion date was missed. There is no communication from their paralegal Rania. I do not recommend this law firm.

I am writing this review to help others avoid unnecessary stress. I would strongly recommend considering an alternative firm, even at a slightly higher cost, as it may save both time and inconvenience.
Our experience was highly unsatisfactory and ultimately resulted in a missed completion deadline. The process began with an error at application stage, where only one applicant was recorded despite two being clearly listed on the title and mortgage offer. This took over a week to resolve, with minimal communication and significant effort required to obtain a response.
Further delays arose during identity verification. Despite multiple submissions of high-quality documents, these were repeatedly rejected without clear explanation. Only automated responses were provided, with no practical guidance on how to resolve the issue.
Overall, the combination of poor communication, inefficient processes, and lack of support made this an extremely frustrating experience.

After 2 years and 9 months that I completed the purchase of my property, Ackroyd has been unable to register my title with the Land Registry.
They have not communicated their difficulties or lack of consideration on the issue to us and they left us chasing for over two years.
They refuse to consider any reimbursement .
Appalling and unprofessional

Qamar Shahrour was amazing, always on hand to answer any questions we had and made the whole process of buying our first home so easy, we would highly recommend using Akroyd Legal.

We had an extremely poor experience with this firm during our property purchase, and the whole process became far more stressful and draining than it should ever have been.

Our transaction dragged on for over 9 months, with repeated delays, contradictory communication, and issues constantly being raised at the last minute. We were told several times that we were close to completion, only for new problems to appear each time. It felt like we were stuck in a constant cycle with no real progress.

Communication was a major issue. We were often left confused about what was actually happening, particularly around compliance checks. We were never given a clear or realistic timeframe, and were repeatedly asked for information we had already provided. The whole process felt unnecessarily complicated and poorly managed.

We escalated our concerns on multiple occasions, but it did not feel like management took any meaningful steps to resolve the situation or move things forward, which significantly reduced our confidence in the firm.

The individual handling our case is no longer with the firm, which added to the lack of continuity and disruption throughout the transaction.

We also incurred additional costs along the way, including compliance-related fees and insurance we were advised to put in place ready for completion — which ultimately did not happen. This added financial pressure to an already difficult situation.

After months of stress and uncertainty, we made the decision to move to another solicitor just to try and save the purchase. The new firm completed everything in just 5 weeks, which clearly highlights how poorly things had been handled previously.

This experience was incredibly stressful, time-consuming, and emotionally draining.

We have now referred the matter to the Legal Ombudsman.

We would strongly advise others to avoid using this firm.

I am extremely disappointed with the service I have received from Ackroyd. During the process of selling my house, the new buyer requested an indemnity policy. Ackroyd initially assured me that no such policy existed and that none had been arranged during my original purchase.

However, after further investigation, it became clear that an indemnity policy had in fact been put in place by the developer years ago. This is something my lawyer should have identified and verified from the outset. Instead, I was given incorrect information, which has caused unnecessary stress, delays, and a lack of confidence in their professionalism.

I expect a solicitor to carry out thorough checks and provide accurate advice, especially in matters as significant as property transactions. Unfortunately, this experience has fallen well below that standard.

I would strongly advise others to carefully consider their choice of legal representation based on my experience.

The process with Ackroyd Legal has been very smooth and our case handler, Samantha Solway has been very professional and efficient. It has also been carried out in a very short time frame, which has helped us in many ways.

I am extremely disappointed with the lack of professionalism from Ackroyd Legal. As an overseas seller (Case Ref: LB.LB.24.40427), I have been completely ghosted by my solicitor, Luisa, for over a month.

I have a buyer ready and waiting since January 2026, and the buyer's solicitor has been chasing for weeks with zero response from Ackroyd. This silence is jeopardizing my £18,000 property sale and causing significant financial risk.

Despite multiple emails and attempts to contact their team, I have received nothing but automated marketing newsletters while my actual legal matter is ignored. Their 8-week internal complaint process is completely unacceptable when a property completion is at stake.

I am now in the process of reporting this matter to the Legal Ombudsman and the SRA (Solicitors Regulation Authority) for professional negligence and breach of conduct.

WARNING TO OTHERS: Do not use this firm if you require a responsive or reliable solicitor. They will take your deposit and then disappear when you need them most.

Fiona was brilliant throughout my first property purchase. As a first-time buyer I was not always sure what to expect, but she made sure I always felt in safe hands. She walked me through everything clearly, made sure I had all the information I needed, and was always upfront about what was required from me at each stage.
