This vet practice should wear a balaclava as they’re robbing people blind
They try and find the slightest fault or reason to give your animal something costly which is unnecessary!! They’re mainly focused on increasing financial income, it’s as if the staff are on commission!!
A final farewell for our 13 year old Patterdale Terrier
Our Patterdale Terrier, Jeff has been unwell for 4 weeks and has been undergoing tests at Morley and Halton in Leeds, over that time, his condition has worsened to the point where he had lost a dangerous amount of weight and was losing muscle mass fast, he could barely hold himself up for more than a few minutes and could no longer go for a walk, even a short one.
Natasha Richardson, our vet at Halton for the last few years has been brilliant. She was empathetic towards us, explained our options clearly, and we arrived at the decision to send Jeff off for an endless nap.
The care Jeff, and we received was excellent and he went to sleep surrounded by his family, holding his paws and kissing him goodbye.
Thank you Abbey House, and Natasha for your professionalism, your empathy, your care and for treating our best friend with the dignity he deserved.
We'll continue to use Abbey House for our other dog for as long as he lives.
No empathy
Like Simon, my complaint is about Jeni. Totally unprofessional. No empathy or consideration to people's beliefs and ethics. Didn't seem to understand that some people believe in helping creatures, not just putting them down. Seemed very judgemental and biased and not what you would expect an educated person to be like. I'm not sure if this person is a fully qualified vet, but it certainly didn't feel this way. Too many biased argumentative opinions rather than evidence.

Good vets and friendly staff, let down by abysmal communication.
Good vets and friendly staff, completely let down by poor and unacceptable communication.
We booked our Spaniel (Otis) in for castration a few weeks ago. Upon booking, we asked if there was a pre-op appointment or information, but were told by the receptionist everything would be explained on the day of surgery.
On the day of surgery when we came in at 8.30am, the first thing we were asked was whether we had fasted Otis in preparation for the surgery. We hadn't, because we had no communication to tell us this needed to be done. The vet then said we would have to pay £35 for an anti-sickness injection because we hadn't. When I suggested the vets should cover this cost due to their lack of communication, they refused.
Instead, the vet suggested that they would do the surgery in the early afternoon. I explained Otis had separation anxiety, so this option would not be suitable to prolong Otis's operation and stay at the vets, for his own wellbeing. Even with this information, they refused to cover the cost, so we reluctantly agreed to pay for the injection for Otis's sake.
The vet advised that the surgery would begin around 10.30am, dependant on whether any critical cases came through the door (totally understandable). The vet the explained if this does happen, at the worst case, the surgery would be started at around 12.30pm.
We then left Otis in their care and went to work. At 4.30pm, we had received no update at all (no news is good news, right?). We called for an update at 4.30pm and were told by the staff that Otis's operation had not even been started yet. I find this completely unacceptable, as we were categorically told that at the worst case, it would be started at 12.30pm. This meant that Otis was left without us for several more hours than needed, suffering from separation anxiety - something I had informed them of upfront.
The surgery was finished in the evening and we were requested to pick Otis up at around 7pm. When we had a consultation with the vet, I asked how Otis had been with his separation anxiety. The vet said that he was howling in the vets, so they gave him a sedative in the morning to calm him down. This was not communicated to us before giving him the sedative for our approval, but was still put on the final bill. In essence, they gave medication that was not agreed and charged us for it without prior consent or agreement to the additional cost. The lack of communication was just not acceptable in relation to this. Furthermore, if we knew that surgery wouldn't have been done until the evening, we would have brought Otis in the afternoon, saving him from needing to have this and also, to minimise the un-needed stress he was put under.
There is a lack of understanding from this vets, that when your animal is left there for surgery, as an owner you are worried and stressed until you know they are ok, out of surgery and back in your hands. It was so distressing and upsetting to find out that hours after the surgery should have been completed, it wasn't at all. This left us worrying for hours more and put Otis through stress, extended starvation and anxiety for absolutely no reason.
It's also disappointing that they are not willing to accept financial responsibility for aspects caused by them, including the need for anti-sickness medication because we were provided absolutely no information prior to the day of surgery, despite us asking for this weeks before.
It's very telling of their lack of care to communicate with owners, when you read all the various review sites and they do not respond to a single bad review. This is poor ethics for any business, never mind one that is in an industry of supposed care.
In summary:
- Friendly staff.
- Good vets.
- Abysmal communication.
- Give your animals drugs without prior consent.
- Charge you for their errors.
I feel really let down here and it's really sad, because the staff and vets are really nice, but they cause unnecessary suffering due to their inability to communicate effectively.
Will be looking for a new vet surgery…
Will be looking for a new vet surgery once pet plan with them is up, was quoted a price by email for 1 tooth removal under mild sedation when I went with my dog the vet nurse made a list of demands of what treatment would be done that day & I had no choice in what they were I said my pet was there for the removal of 1 very loose tooth only, she was very rude & did not want to give me a price when I said if I was not given an actual price I would be leaving with my dog she threw out £1200 + I was quoted no more than £400 originally by email before booking the appointment, my dog had already been seen by the vet to determine this, my dog did not need to be put fully under, the vet nurse told me this was not happening & my pet would be fully under, I said no it’s far too expensive & not what I was quoted so the price changed again to £850 I left after that with my dog. I had to unfortunately use these again as I pay a pet plan with them, today the vet was very nice so were the receptionists but the pharmacist was extremely unprofessional, after asking her a question regarding the medication I purchased, she announced to the whole waiting area that I was rude, if asking how much medication is in the packet when the receptionist told me different is being rude then I must be. Not a great experience paying full price for treatment’s, being made to wait for hours after appointment times & ridiculous price hiking by unprofessional horrible staff, I definitely would not recommend using these as your regular vets.
Check your bill! Complete SCAM
Took my dog in for chocolate poisoning.
Having previously paid £300 at Wetherby Emergency Vets out of hours, I was shocked to have a final bill of over £1000 for EXACTLY the same thing. They had charged me an extra £260 for an overnight stay my dog did NOT need. After querying this, they did remove this charge. Woke up this morning to them insisting my bill wasn’t settled (it is) because the receptionist didn’t put a note on last night to say it was sorted. In fact, due to their fault with adding up, I ended up paying n extra couple of quid more that wasn’t offered as a refund.
Avoid this place at all costs. If you have the time/transport, I would recommend a trip to swift referrals for sensible pricing and a smoother, quicker service.
Took my cat to the cleckheaton branch…
Took my cat to the cleckheaton branch as he was struggling to breathe and was prescribed medication and antibiotics for £178! 4 days later took him back to the other site in birstall, same vet, as the meds had no effect, was told it would be best to put him to sleep, the package we agreed was £170. Received a bill a week later for £198! Will not be returning with my other pets
Thank you for helping Sam be at peace.
On Thursday we had our oldest dog Sam put to sleep at Abbey House Morley. This was a really hard decision to make but his heath was declining and he was 14 and a half! But after consultation with Adam his vet it was decided to let him be in peace. On arrival the hospital was busy with owners collecting their pets or attending the vets for a consultations. We weren’t bothered about the small delay we had as it gave us all some extra time to spend with Sam.
When we went into the consultation room, Adam the vet made Sam, my partner and I very much at ease his calm approach made the process soo much easier to take in. Adam explained everything to us from start to finish and Sam was just so chilled because he was ready too. The process was very smooth obviously extremely emotional but I felt Adam’s approach made the whole thing seem less stressful and less painful for me and my partner. I would like to thank Adam and the team in the back for Sam’s care over the years and in his final stages of his life. I would recommend Adam the vet and Abbey House to other pet owners in the West Yorkshire area. Thank you
I have just got back from out of hours
I have just got back from out of hours. I think I’ve been totally ripped off. They wanted to keep my dog over night and asked £1200 . I said no . They said to give him anti sickness pain killers etc . £400. I didn’t think he needed anti sickness he wasn’t sick . They gave him fluid by a syringe which I also think was unnecessary and charged me £180 for ten minutes of their time . I will never use these vets again and o will wait for my own vets to open tomorrow. I will also post what they say . I wouldn’t recommend these vets at all.
Been to my own vets they gave him antibiotics and inflammation injection. He is much better. Abbey House did nothing but want money. I shall be asking for my money back .
Awful service
We took our beloved dog to Abbey House in Morley to be put to sleep as he was 17 and in poor health. This was already an extremely difficult time for me and my family which in turn was made more difficult when we had to wait 2 hours past our original appointment time. We asked numerous times about wait times and was told repeatedly that we wouldn’t be waiting longer than 30 minutes (which we was).
I completely understand that veterinary services are busy however there was only 2 other people in the waiting area and 2 hours late is a joke when the situation was already hard enough.
To make matters worse, this evening I went to collect our dogs ashes from the vets and the receptionist couldn’t locate them. This was a result of them spelling his name wrong on the box! This is something for me and my family to keep to remember our dog and this has upset us all massively. Baring in mind this was also 400 pound and they couldn’t even spell his name correctly (when they had this information so had no reason for it to be misspelt). To say we are disappointed with the service we have received is an understatement. I would not recommend this vets to anyone.
Charging away too much
Charging away too much. Took my cat for treatment they asked for £800 for 24 hours . Rediculous prices
Failed To Carry Out Procedures
This practice is called a veterinary hospital. It is also ultimately owned by Mars Petcare. You might think it would be excellent. It is not.
I took our Rottweiler there after he developed a skin problem around his right eye. I agreed he be sedated for the skin scraping so booked in for 8.15am in a week's time.
Arrived at 8.15am and seen by 8.25am. The previous visit we had to wait 40 minutes and the time before, 45 minutes. The vet seemed pleasant and we agreed to 1. sedation, 2. skin scrape, 3. blood test, 4. nails cutting, so I signed the consent form. The price was £415.
Waited all day to be contacted by the vet with the results. She never called. At 6.10pm a nurse called and very briefly said Max did not have mites, they did not know what the problem was and to apply some cream and take a Nexgard chew once a month (for mites/fleas/ticks). No mention of the invoice or the blood tests or the nail cutting but to collect Max at 7pm.
Arrived at 7pm and had to wait until 7.40. A nurse called me in and said everything had been explained and the bill was now £473. Telling her it had not and she said she started at 7pm and had no knowledge of Max's procedures. The vet of course had gone home. Asked her about the blood test results and said they had not been done. Why not? Don't know.
Asked to speak to whoever was in charge. Seems no one as they don't have admin staff evenings or nights. Even though this place calls itself a 24 hour hospital.
After some words I said just get my dog and when he came through he was hardly awake, unsteady on his feet and definitely not himself. She said if I wanted to wait she would get a vet to do the blood test!!! Unbelievable.
Went to the receptionist and told her the blood tests had not been done or the nail clipping. She was amazed they hadn't been. There was someone in charge if I wanted to speak to them but one vet was operating and one was with another owner so I declined. By now I just wanted out of the place. I told her I would not be paying the balance and left. We suspect Max was not sedated until at least 3pm due to his weak condition so he was cooped up in a small kennel for more than 11 hours totally unnecessarily.
Do not be fooled by the grand 'hospital' name. This is just an ordinary practice with a small reception area. It is chaotically run. One far eastern vet was particularly rude and offhand when coming out to owners and one we saw previously, with a European accent, did not know what a 'tick' was.
Reported to the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons for failing Max. If you care for your pet, do NOT come here.
Took our pug to this vets as it was…
Took our pug to this vets as it was open out of hours.
I cannot understand why they have not been investigated for their INSANE prices!
1 night stay and she had sedation £1300! Then had the cheek to charge another 80 on
Collection for antibiotics.
I went to collect our dog to be sat there for 1 hour 45 minutes waiting for her to be brought out for us. The Chinese vet is exceptionally rude and some of the receptionist need to re think their customer service! Will categorically NEVER use these again.
Turns out my pug has mucus on her chest! Wow some vet bill that eh
Pricing out of control
We used to use an independent vets called Croft House on Soothill Lane in Batley, however this has now been taken overby Abbey House. Although we were seen at short notice the pricing is out of control. We were charged £93 for a consultation and nausea injection. After checking with another local vets they confirmed they would have charged £47 for this so we'll be going there in future. We all know vets are not cheap but this is just taking advantage of people who are worried about their pet.
Had to use the emergency vets out of…
Had to use the emergency vets out of hours in Morley, on a Saturday evening, whilst the receptionist was very nice, and it was so busy, we had a distressing time.
Sadly our beloved pet passed away, we got a call early sunday morning, we were told we would be called the next day, no call, by Tuesday, so i called our vet in Kippax to ask what the procedure was now, i asked for a call back, Thursday i finally got a call back.
Not many options really they weren't very informative on much, i just wanted our pet back home with us. Her family. Bill was paid, then i received a nice card with sunflower seeds in, but it made me feel i only got because i paid the bill, it felt very heartless, and after asking 3 times to be taken to Kippax surgery she was sent to Morley. Didnt want to wait another 3 days to get her back so collected at morley, again reception really kind, she asked if i had a paw print, nothing mentioned in the conversations, yes it would of been nice to of been asked that, i would of said yes.
The box from the crematorium was really beautiful and im glad ive got our furbaby home now.
RIP
I understand that they are busy vets but just felt very neglected.
Very poor empathetic and professional service
Don't use this vets if you're expecting an adequate level of empathetic or professional service. Unfortunately we had to use their emergency service, comprised of diagnosis, overnight surgery and eventually euthanasia, all in less than 24hrs. You'd think going through all of that, that the staff would make sure to apply care and attention. They didn't. 1am call to discuss surgery costs turned out to be wrong when I got the invoice in the afternoon (extra grand on top). A miscommunication between the receptionist and the surgeon, receptionist got the charges wrong. The worst was yet to come though; when picking up the ashes, my partner in tears, this was the time the receptionist chose to inform her that we had an outstanding charge on the account (we didn't), then a week later we got a letter in the post stating the same. I had to explain that I'd paid the invoice so wanted to understand their mistake and remove the charges. They'd created an additional invoice 2 days after our dog passed with a solo charge and their manual process to add bank transfers onto my account was calculated wrong. I was told I'd have a resolution the next day; I said I 100% know I've paid the invoice so the only resolution will be an apology to me. They've not called back, 4 working days later, so I guess they don't want to apologise and are just showing how poor their service is. I have no doubt those actively looking after our dog gave the best treatment, those that didn't should up their game.
My experience related to this practice was a nightmare.
My experience related to this practice has been a true nightmare. With the exclutsion of the Senior Vet Julie Roberts who admitted Falkon, my Persian cat, at the hospital on the 21 of May 2022. The cat was hospitalised 2 nights and 3 days. A Biopsy of the lump of his neck was performed on the right han side of the neck while the infection developed in 2 abscess bursts on the left-hand side only two weeks after he was discharged. The infection lasted 3 months and was eventually resolved in August 2022 with an appropriate antibiotic treatment given by another practice. Don't trust the administration, and the quality of the service as the people working there have to respond to a greedy administration.
Better vets out there
Tell you one thing then ring you weeks later with another thing, leaving my pet with no medication due to their Mistake.
Nearly 40 minute wait each time.
I must say Receptionists are lovely.
