I have done Blurb Books in the past and mostly was impressed by their quality. However after many years pausing I tried a new book which turned out a disaster. The old software Booksmart I used and put all the book pages in, took me many hours, was not “used anymore since Jan.26” as I was told when trying to upload to them. There was no way to transfer my book to the other software Bookwright as it was not yet online. So meticulously I learned the other software and transferred my book page for page again. Word here was no longer accepted and I had to change all text in RTL. Finally I chose a background in a soft colour, only finding it online, after uploading, to be a horrid neon pink instead of the soft lilac which had shown on my pages. Horror upon horror, the text also had slipped and some words were on totally wrong places. How can this have happened as all was correct on the software and I saved every single page.
My pictures were high pixels yet I still got warnings so I could not bleed them over a page as intended. The software did not allow me to preview before uploading, only later when already online. I am going to have my book printed now by a local printer for even less cost and more copies. I don’t intend to create another blurb book as I am quite upset about this whole ordeal. Years earlier they had a nice customer support team, now you are sent on circles without advice or help anymore.
I see that Blurb has changed a lot and not for the best. May be others have better experiences but I only can show my own case
I've been a Blurb user before. I've been impressed before. However I ordered a PhotoBook this time and im not greatly impressed. There are issues.
1. The image quality seems flat. Despite colour profiling every image to sit in gamut of the paper stock they lack contrast. I went with Lustre Paper which should be ok for this.
2. Previous books I've done the colour profiling was dependant on paper stock. Each paper had a profile. The now 1 profile just is generic. This isn't good enough for professionals to get the best of their images on paper.
The pricing is also gone up and is no longer value unless Blurb offer a discount. This puts me off ever doing a book to sell. No one will buy it.
Also within the software there are quirks that need to be rethought like no way of adjusting where images sit within the picture layout, ie top middle or bottom.
I still like Blurb it could be great but I think next time I will maybe seek an alternative supplier.
Update. Another reason why Blurb isnt necessarily built for pro photographers is that we also cant test our work on the papers beforehand. We literally have to print a book for every paper. Blurb does not provide the Swatch Kits in the UK which is annoying but astonishing. Whats wrong with the UK? This is a disrespectful thing on Blurbs part as they dont see our work in the UK as good enough to allow us to see the papers we may choose. Again Blurb needs to completely change this around.
I used this site before many years ago for a similar print book and it was legit but this time I wasn’t impressed. The design functionality which was different and less user friendly and some things like adding borders were missing. Nonetheless I managed to put together a decent book. Today however I received the printed version and I am really disappointment as this is a Xmas present for my parents. The quality is not there, one line on the outside is printed in the wrong place and overall this feels like a £5 print from Amazon. Not for £23 which was discounted, if I paid full price and had more time I would probably have sent it back.
Needless to say I won’t be using them again.
The software, Bookwright, is better than some other companies... but the end result of the photobook was ultimately disappointing for the price. Consider Saal Digital or Cewe instead.

I have used blurb and been very happy in the past. I contacted them last year about bookwrite supporting Microsoft surface pro with snapdragon processor and was told issue would be addressed in the new year.
Have raised issue again and their technical support team and still can’t give a date. We are now 7 months later and issue still exists. I will now have to go somewhere else.
As a long-time customer of Blurb I received an email today saying it was the last day of 30% off photo books with free shipping, I attempted to place an order for a book I'd just completed. I received this reply, 'Sorry, this promotion has reached its maximum use.' Why then bother to send the email if the offer is no longer available?
Honestly terrible quality my book came today the cover was creased had no idea that the cover wasn’t going to be attached to to book very very thin paper can see through one page and see the image on the other side lines down the pages lucky I only bought it to see if it would be worth using for my business but it’s easy to say ill not be using them again

Customer service is impossible to get ahold of. If you submit an email request for help it can be over a week before you get a response and they don't have a phone number or live chat option. If you have any urgency at all with your project i'd recommend using a different company
I was provided an adequate solution from BLURB.
But UPS never again tho.
ordered photo-book for 170$ and more than 40$ for delivery.UPS was not capable to delivery the package to the address where they were delivering from 2017 (i ordered some books before). There is no way to change/update delivery address or contact them directly. Not saying blurb collected my phone number and nobody contact me - and on the UPS website its announcement that they are contacting the shipper - BLURB.
First time producing a layflat book, I can't comment on the quality as I'm still waiting to receive the book.
Like another customer, I paid for express shipping, I was given a delivery date of 24th October. Today is 23rd October and the order status is still showing as 'In production'.
I chased this up, to be told their print shop is experiencing a production delay, they cannot provide a new delivery date. Not particularly helpful as I now have no idea as to when I will receive the book, which is a gift. Very disappointing experience.
First time we've had a problem with the quality of the printing 4/4 books affected that just arrived. Ridges where the paper was cut: 2 on the top of the front, and one on the side back. Also the non affected book has a glue mark on the white spine, which I wouldn't normally worry about but as the other 3 are badly produced it is a worry. Really poor quality control. Disappointed. Can send pictures and the order number (by an email address not used for trustpilot).
Update: finding random white spots on pictures through out the books that appear in one book but not in others.

Wrongly printed
Phantom page at front pushing all other pages in the wrong order.
Bleed is visible on some pages.
Support keeps dancing around the issue and wasting my time.
Never again.

Ridiculously poor quality of a soft cover photo book
Glue marks on front cover
Cover is falling apart (cover print from cover paper)
Visible gray lines on black
Glue overspill on binding (on multiple pages)
First book with Blurb, really disappointed 😞

I was going to wait to see the actual product quality once my photo book arrives before leaving a review, however after being price gouged on shipping costs I feel compelled to say something now.
Regardless of anything else, at this point, the defining feature of my experience will be my surprised frustration at a shady pricing tactic after being too invested in the book creation process to not complete my order.
To clarify, I live in London and the shipping cost for a 24 page 11x13 book was £32. This equates to over $40 USD for something that we all know does not cost nearly that much to ship as a consumer, much less for a business shipping these in mass quantity at obviously better rates.
They provide poor justification for this in other reviews (which they will probably copy/paste below) - that much more than the shipping alone factors into this charge, as it’s all the labor to ready the shipment as well as the packaging supplies, that the costs are carefully researched, etc etc. Makes you wonder how ANY company is able to stay afloat with the dreadful costs of shipping products!
It’s laughable and obviously if this their calculus of “shipping costs” they need to re-educate themselves on the definition of operating costs. It’s all the more irritating as the explanation reeks of you-know-what…it’s a revenue grab plain and simple.
The silly part is they’ve managed to turn probably £15-£20 pounds into a matter of principle (it’s not about the money).
The book building software was fine but nothing that sleek by 2024 standards, and to their credit I’m expecting the book quality to be above average (TBD). My frustration will subside and I hope to enjoy the book for a long time to come, but the “gotcha” feeling will also stick. Just be forewarned about this part and their prices are not really what they hold them out to be.

Ridiculous Shipping cost.
Makes the service pretty much unusable! What's the point of providing decent prices for your book when the shipment costs are out of this word. A 100 page trade book is £12 and the shipment is £11 (4 days priority £25 :D ). They are literally gifting their business to incredibly pricy shipment companies that makes more money than them with their own customers.

I've printed over ten different books in the past few years with Blurb and until now had mostly positive experiences (only occasional print errors that were rectified with a reprint). Unfortunately this is not the case for my most recent order.
My first order arrived with horrible print quality on the ImageWrap cover. I reported this and customer service sent me a replacement copy at no cost. Unfortunately the replacement arrived with the exact same issue (plus an added unknown substance that has been glued under the endpapers). This time I was told there would be extra quality control measures put in place, and it was reprinted a third time. Again, this did not resolve the issue. The book was reprinted a fourth time...same problem. I expressed to customer support that I was unhappy as clearly no additional checks had taken place, or they would not have sent me a fourth book with the exact same printing error.
It was at this point that I also advised customer service that I work in print production for a global book publisher and have a strong understanding of how it works. I advised that there was no issue with my files (as the images used on the internals come from the same files as those used on my cover, and the internals are perfect) and that there was clearly a problem with the calibration on the printer they were using for my cover...cue the radio silence.
It has now been over a month since Blurb customer service have responded to me (their previous responses were always under two days). I have sent several follow up emails and even lodged a new support ticket on their website, all of which have gone ignored.
I am so disappointed. I used to recommend Blurb to all my friends, I print a book with them yearly...now I can't recommend them at all.
If you are looking to spend money on a high quality product and want to know you will receive good customer service, don't look to Blurb.

I reviewed Blurb in 2019 and am pleased to say that they have kept up their excellent standard of printing in the five years since. As a retired commercial photographer I expect high quality printing, which Blurb books always deliver. Only quibble is their choice of shipper, FedEx, who takes longer to deliver than it takes Blurb to print and whose communications can be chaotic and unhelpful.
Ordered a book, half of the book was printed upside down. The cover was also damaged. No customer complaint number on site.

Used to be a great company but now unhelpful and products come damaged from improper packaging.

Postage far too expensive
Using blurb's Bookwright software was great, it was intuitive and simple to use. However, when it came to ordering a proof copy to check the print quality, I had to pay full price for the book and then the cheapest postage they offered was £8.99. So in total I had to pay £21.80 to know how the book would print.
When the book arrived the printing was okay, but nothing special to justify the cost. The spine was also out of alignment.
I will not be using blurb to publish my book.
