Malaysian Rendang Curry
We received the Cookaway experience as a gift
We chose our first recipe to order in January and received it on time and well packaged with ice packs etc , we received all the ingredients to cook (which were also top quality for our chosen meal )and instructions which were easy to follow
The meal turned out just like the recipe booklet showed us and was very authentic and tasty having had the same meal when we were in Malaysia
Looking forward to our next cookaway experience

This experience centres around a 30-day aged 450g beef fillet Chateaubriand, accompanied by ingredients to make béarnaise sauce from scratch, sweet potato fries with polenta & paprika and a mixed leaf salad. It’s one of our top-selling and highest-rated menus and we believe it offers great value for the quality included.

I have never cooked Japanese but we…
I have never cooked Japanese but we often go to Japanese restaurants and enjoy the cuisine.
It was fun to prepare the different dishes and the meat and fish top quality.

Food was fine
Food was fine. Next to no communication and as this was for delivery on the last delivery before Christmas I was very anxious. Even more so as they don’t answer emails or the phone or even have working voicemail but leave them a bad trustpilot review and they’ll be on the phone in minutes.
I’ve had so many emails since about selling me meals I’ve actually had to block them as you don’t get an opt out option.

- You placed an order on 30 Nov for delivery on 23 Dec. Our logs show that an order confirmation email was sent to you at 6:28pm on 30 Nov
- We received an enquiry from you at 2pm on 22 Dec asking about the status of your order
- Our system generated and sent you an order shipped email at 6pm on 22 Dec confirming that your order had been dispatched and would be delivered next day
- Your box was successfully delivered on 23 Dec by 12 noon as per the delivery service chosen by you
Given the above, I'm not sure how we could've communicated the status of your order any better. Christmas is the busiest time of the year which means our phone lines + email are constantly busy and our teams have to prioritise the most urgent issues. Given your box was successfully dispatched on the 22nd and a shipment email sent to you, meant there was no need for our teams to get in touch again to confirm status of your order. Ultimately we delivered your box as promised on the 23rd.
We use Klaviyo for all our email marketing. This is one of the most popular CRM systems used by most D2C brands worldwide. This requires us to have an unsubscribe option on all our marketing comms hence there is no possibility of us sending you a marketing email without the option to opt out as the system would block it automatically. Any emails re your account are classified as transaction emails and these do not have an unsubscribe button as they are necessary to communicate (with you) about your order or your account.
We are small family-run business, passionate about our brand, products and service so we take all reviews seriously. We are naturally disappointed to read your comments which I hope we've now clarified and resolved.

You ordered our Aged Chateaubriand and Spanish Tapas Night menus. I can also see you came via Virgin Experiences and wondering if these were gifted to you and our proposition to 'enable curious cooks with adventurous and exciting world food menus' wasn't clear?
Our Aged Chateaubriand Experience comes with a 30-day Aged 450g Beef Fillet Chateaubriand which is the star of the show. This is accompanied by all the ingredients needed to make Bearnaise sauce (from scratch), Sweet Potato Fries (with polenta and paprika) and a simple but delicious mixed leaf salad.
The Spanish Tapas Night menu includes 5 recipes with many top quality and unique ingredients like our 5-star rated king prawns for Gambas al Ajillo and Bomba Rice, Manchego Cheese + 18 other ingredients for Stuffed Romano Peppers. You also receive all the ingredients to make your own Aioli from scratch.
Both these menus are highly rated and our top-sellers. They are also really good value for money given the quality and uniqueness of the ingredients.
We are sorry to hear that this did not come through for you. I believe someone from the team has already spoken with you to explain this and we hope you'll come back soon for another exciting world food adventure.

Greek experience
The quality of the food and the presentation was all excellent. I found the instructions easy to follow. I did mess up with the service of the food though. With a meze you normally get the dips and pitta bread, then a small selection of dishes, then the meat and salad course. I served it all at the same time. There were too many flavours on the same plate. The portions were generous and as we had been gifted a 3/4 person package, we had plenty for the next day too. Worth a try, was good fun to make a different cuisine.

Overpriced for what you receive
Overpriced for what you receive. A marginal upgrade on quality of ingredients from a decent supermarket or local grocer/butcher, and not overly adventurous garnishes etc (again, not too different than a decent takeaway)

You tried the Izakaya Experience and Crispy Chilli Beef menus, both of which are top selling and highly rated products so we are a bit bummed that these didn't go down so well with you.
The Izakaya box is a real treat with dishes like Beef Tataki, Chicken Karaage and Ebi Furai. All the ingredients are very high quality (as needs to be the case with Japanese food) which is reflected in the price. Our meat is sourced from a top quality butcher in Wiltshire and the prawns we supply are so good, they get called out constantly in our reviews. There are also many interesting ingredients used across the recipes such as Aonori seaweed flakes, black sesame seeds, Japanese mayonnaise etc which adds to the flavour and makes it good fun to cook this menu.
The Crispy Chilli Beef is a simpler menu (hence much lower price point) but comes with a majestic Flank Steak and several exciting oriental ingredients. This menu was taste tested by the Sheerluxe team and voted No. 1 amongst 4 other recipe boxes.

Arrived exactly on schedule, but fairly expensive with small portions
Arrived exactly on schedule. Well packaged and clear instructions and labelling. Sadly, portions were very small, I had to add extra protein and bulk out with extra veg to make it stretch. Expensive for what you actually get but quality and convenience was excellent.

Delivered exact time as promised
Delivered exact time as promised. All of the fresh ingredients were very nice quality. The fillet steak, chicken & giant prawns were kept very cold with the ice packs and bags- again these were all top quality from the best suppliers, I imagine. All enjoyed immensely.

Average Meals at a Premium Price
This was my first time using Cookaway and I was disappointed. The food was only average, the price felt high for the quality and quantity of ingredients provided, and the cooking instructions were unnecessarily complicated.

Lovely Spanish tapas, if a little time consuming to prepare
I have had the Spanish tapas a couple of times - really good recipes and the romano peppers are different from the usual.
The only issue I have is the recipes are quite fiddly and time consuming -eg all the ingredients for the stuffing have to be chopped into small pieces, then fried at different times. Not good if you need something to cook quickly.

Delicious Goan Prawn Curry
We ordered Goan King Prawn Curry. It was delicious. Quite a lot of ingredients but we followed the instructions and really enjoyed the curry and the rice.
The prawns were huge and very tasty and the rice very coconutty.
One small point. You really do need two frying pans to make sure all is ready at the same time.
